Yay, trunk surprise

I don't have trunk dress up covers over my Barracuda latch. I drilled a 1-1/4" hole in the fold down panel center just below the single latch. I was able to unlatch it but I had things stored in the trunk that kept me from opening it even a couple inches. I was able to see the latch through the hole so I hammered one end of a 4' length of 1/4" rod into a flat blade. Bent a 90° on the other. With a small flashlight and some precision stabbing, I was able to hit the target and turn the latch.

Cool. But I'm going to do everything I can to not drill holes in that panel.

Cool. But I'm going to do everything I can to not drill holes in that panel.
If you are persistent and patient, use a metal putty knife that is thin and flexible to open the two latches on the trunk panel. Then a flat screwdriver to open the trunk latch.

Here's a little closure, no pun intended. After taking care of a few loose ends and enjoying driving the car around and procrastinating about the trunk, I came home today to see the trunk popped open.

It turns out that there was a tie down strap that had slipped down between the trunk and the latch, and after all of my bouncing around in the car it popped open.

Who said procrastination never paid?

Anyhow, thanks for all of the suggestions, though I'm grateful I didn't have to follow through any of them.

All kinds of things could happen and did!
I heard of an old saying. Warning! Might be sexist.! Maybe vulgar!
(If you want a woman to become a permanent fixture in the house, they should be (s- - - - - d) on the floor. Someone else added that if it happens in a 66-7 Charger the car stays in the family.
I do know a fellow, that told me they Christened their new 66 Charger on their honeymoon.
I am certain he was always truthful.
