I think you are positioning the WS too far forward. Check the hole pattern in the roof. I have to look at mine, if I'm wrong I will get back.

Dan, I studied the RR weather strip issue when doing my 65 Belvedere and found Steel makes the correct fitting weather strip. Other brands use straight strips without a bonded joint at the C pillar down angle. Of course I did not purchase Steel brand WS. I did cut a vee out and rebonded with WS...
As with any bolt, it needs to work with a thread, no matter where the threads are. In a nut or in a tapped piece of metal. The engineers designed ease of assembly into the assembly.

To be fair on my end-I don't know for sure if they're not all steel. I never owned a 62. Just guessing from the covers on my 63 and 2-65s. I never have/will never "restore" a car. I made my own covers from aluminum for my 65 Belvedere. I even used rivet nuts to retain them, never did enjoy...
I purchased a gallon of anodize remover online but, many have said Easy Off oven cleaner will do the job. It did take me more than one application to get the anodizing completely off. This can be tested as you proceed by sanding, looking for the bare aluminum "gray" slurry that indicates...
