    dp4b vs 1966 intake

Those old school intakes are dandy's. THe D4B and LD4B's for the 273's are Golden. LD340's are top notch. The Dp's for the B and RB engines work so well. A friend built a mild 440 with the CH4B and it dynoed at 500 hp and torque. They just work.

What could pinging mean in terms of timing?

Try Mega Parts USA and look for "spring" or "kickdown" in the search box.

What could pinging mean in terms of timing?

Not good at all. Get with @HALIFAXHOPS and purchase some quality ignition parts. You won't regret it. I would buy a proper cap and rotor from him to make sure everything is correct.

What could pinging mean in terms of timing?

Do yourself a favor and stay away from Tony's videos. They can lead you in the wrong direction. Halifaxhops, Mattax and others on this site are very knowledgeable about ignition systems.

What could pinging mean in terms of timing?

Yes, Timing does not effect dwell but dwell does effect timing but not by much. That's why I said (by much) in my post. Too little or too much dwell will make an engine run like crap or not at all. Detonation is usually not an issue with 2-4° initial regardless of where the dwell is set. If a...

Points adjusting won't effect timing. (by much) New cap and rotor?

Electric priming pump for fuel evaporation issues.

If you have to crank your engine a lot to fill the carb bowls after it has set for a few days, you may need a electric priming pump. Hook it up to a switched 12v. source, protected with a fuse, and operated with a momentary contact switch and your problems will be gone. Here are a few pumps that...

11 PSI fuel pressure at the carb

Regulate it down to about 5 or less. Don't rely on a pump to regulate the pressure.

    Intake manifold height

Another vote for CH4B. A friend built a mild 440 with one and got just a tick short of 500 horse and as much torque. They work quite well.

Engine stalls when shifted into gear

Troubleshoot and diagnose. Something that isn't done with folks that don't know.

Engine stalls when shifted into gear

Has it backfired lately? Holley's will blow power valves out if they backfire. THey will run like crap. If you don't know a lot about cars find a friend that does. May be you could exchange carbs with a known good one. Revving it to 3ooo and dumping it in gear is not advised.

    la 318 question

Go with the 4 barrel. 500 2 barrels aren't a bad carb but they aren't the best for mileage.

During deceleration, fuel dumping out of the tanks vent line. What gives?

Fuel pressure, regulator, and carb you ate running?

318 carb to replace or upgrade

I like the electric choke myself. One wire hook up to a switched power source.manual choke you will have to operate from the driver's seat via a cable.

318 carb to replace or upgrade

If you buy it, keep your fingers crossed. With a upgraded cam and compression I would go 4 barrel intake and carb.
