Yea, its a detent spring. I just slips into the groove around the pin and rides on the upper seat frame. keeps the seat from flopping when you have it in the forward position

I think so. The seats are built and the springs are in. I'm not taking it apart again. If they are wrong, they will be wrong for the next 50 yrs!

This car is all original and has been sitting since 1974. Bought from original owner. No repairs have ever been done to the car. Chalk it up to "how about that"!! There was a spring in each seat.
