Yea, that POS repo switch is offered by many sellers. Indeed, the correct numbered NOS T/S switches are getting spendy. If do some homework the ’70 and up switch head was used well into the 80’s on various other platforms as well. I’ve picked up NOS switches for non-tilt vans or trucks fairly...
With some boxes and/or installations clearly louder than others, I am beginning to think the column configuration could be contributing to the volume of the noise issue. The ‘71-72 floor shifted columns did not include a lower shaft support bearing, just a seal, only supported by the upper...
Besides my own, I’ve recently been involved with another BAC/Borgeson conversion, both ‘72s and using the BAC coupler. In both cases a very loud annoying hydraulic noise transmitted up the column, starting after a few minutes of running time. BAC exchanged them both, and in both cases the second...
That would depend on loading (stock, not-so-stock), at a minimum something based on the factory fleet bypass or the C-body bypass, addresses the real weakness in the original design, the bulkhead connectors in the charge path but retains correct circuit protection. Lose the “shunt wire” bypass...
Black is the accessory feed from the ignition switch.
Better hope you never experience a short in any of the unfused wiring or components, a lot of wires will burn before a 200 amp fuse blows with that bypass in place.
The ”D” style reproductions are too tall and won’t compress as the original '72 and up “D” styles, use the ’71 and earlier “Y” style if you want the trunk to close. Yes, it will work for a '73. Been there, done that.
Columns with this type of column housing to dash frame jumper also depended on a staple in the rubber upper shaft bearing insulator for completing the horn relay circuit from the column housing to the shaft/steering wheel.
The later field relay had nothing to do with alternator output, was to address the factory higher output alternator’s higher field current draw. Can be used to address battery/regulator reference voltage drop issues but won’t make the alternator output any more current vs rpm. What idle speed? I...
