I have been a mechanic, engine builder, vocational instructor, starting in 1976. I called the company BEFORE installing the camshaft expressing my reservations that the spring rates were WAY to STIFF. the company told me no warranty if not installed and broken in too their specs. The engine...
Not sure what kind of meter you have, but to read amps you have to run the voltage threw the meter. so, what I am saying is to read amps you would have to unhook the battery cable or big wire at the alternator and hook the meter in series. A 10 amp meter is the biggest I have ever had. So, if...
Well, I hope their no flat cam guarantee has improved since I purchased a cam from them several years ago. I even called them before install and told them the spring pressure was way too stiff. Cam went flat in just a few hours of operation time, after installing the stiff springs, used...
I worked at two fast food restaurants and an IGA grocery store in high school and college. I worked at a Dairy Queen in 1972 t0 1974 made 75 cents an hour and one meal. I built my first car with that wage. A 1948 Willys wagon with a 327 chevy and a powerglide. I always had gas and insurance...
Yukon makes 8 3/4 axles with an extra-long spline on the end and after you narrow the housing you simply use an abrasive cut off saw and cut them to fit. Yukon axle kit for Chrysler 8.75 | YA C8.75-32.0-KIT | Yukon Gear & Axle
Just to mention it make sure the front bearing is in good shape and the pilot bushing is as well. Ball bearings have poor side loading properties, and the pilot bushing help hold the input shaft in alignment, no seal will work right if the shaft can wobble or gets pushed to one side. Drain...
I build a lot of engines for muscle cars, most owners want the same thing, engine to look stock, have a little lope at idle and a little more power, so stock looking mechanical pump gets used. I have had terrible trouble buying a good one. On the dyno they hold pressure good low rpm but around...
Spray some penetrating oil on the block dowel pin holes, then making SURE all bolts are out drive a gasket scraper under to unseat the bell housing. And on the leaks, A833 just leak, I been driving them since 1974 and most of them leaked a little. I fix them for other people, and they seem to...
I had an uncle that was a bodyman and he made his living for many years fixing totals and then selling them. With his help I bought several totals from the insurance auctions over the years for my vehicles and for my kids first cars. First is how do you want to fix the damage? all new OEM...
The majority of the engines I build the people want exactly what you do. I use performance trends software to see what the combo is capable of. The software will estimate cranking compression and idle vacuum, calculate a timing curve, and many other variables as well. Pump gas street engines...
We have had a weird weather year, lots of spring rain and then late summer and fall no rain but warm temperatures. Leaves are just starting to turn now. Usually, I am raking and burning but trees still have a lot of their leaves, and not much color lack of moisture they tell me. I do get a...
I can tell you what we did at the dealership back in the 70's when they were new, take a bar of ivory soap and hold against the side of the belts with it running and most of the time the noise will go away and stay away.
360 block, Indy iron X heads, with some port work, cam was a 500 lift 220 duration, 110 center hydraulic, single plane intake, Ebay stroker kit forged flat top pistons, 9 to 1 compression, MSD distributor, FiTech 600 hp injection system. 6 lbs boost. The procharger I bought used off a big block...
That has changed over time. When I was young, I had a 69 Plymouth sports fury with a police package, it would run 135mph on a certified speedometer. Lots less traffic back then in my rural area would road race and run it fast all the time. Next car was a 1970 340 dart it would run really fast...
I have experience with a fitech single 4 barrel boosted application. First does the fitech control the timing? Mine does. Second main thing I would look at is on the parameters you will see desired air fuel ratio and you will see actual air fuel ratio, they should be close. Then you need to...
The compression check is fine. You are correct that a leakdown test is much more accurate. And as suggested on a performance engine I always do a leak test and compression test when the engine is fresh as a way to track what is going on with it down the road.
yea I raced with Mark in NSS for many years, I really liked Mark he was kind of funny grumpy in a good way. I believe Clay Kossuth in Catawissa was trying to sell the Ford for the family and had it at his shop. Clay and Damon are good buddies. If I was a Ford guy I would snap it up.
