As my super bee sits waiting for an engine, i have a few options i can choose from. I have a 6.1 thats being built for a turbo. Its being delayed to to machine work. Nothing tragic like the block is stuck in machine shop purgatory or anything. Its a long uninteresting story.
Anyway, i can wait...
Well, you may also want to look at exactly how much you'll be putting into the car. 5.7-6.4 Gen III+ Hemi is going to cost quite a lot of money to power the wheels ($10,000+), and a Poly 318 'built to the hilt' will also be a substantial amount of money. Blue print crate engines offers a 408...
Here is where I was coming from. In my Coronet Convertible I built a stroked 440, I think around $7K for the engine, added an expensive EFI around $4K, but even a cheap TBI EFI is over $2K, added the expensive Billet Specialities belt system (that comes with all new water pump/housing, A/C...
If a driver and not trying to impress anyone w/ the physical size of the engine, absolutely 5.7.
If going this route though, EFI and OD trans are a must, otherwise you might as well keep the 273, imo.
As for the guys in the 90's putting TPI 350s in their Camaro's, those same guys did their...
...of tho if you are worried about what it'll be worth down the road is that the modst recent efi swaps aren't the way to go. They are old news in no time and common place in no time. Look how many 5.7swaps are being done and now they all want 6.1s. Take my 1990 example as listed previously.
I haven't seen anybody put the 6.4 in but there have been plenty of G3 hemi swaps completed. The blocks should share the same architecture as the 5.7 and 6.1. So mounting, bell housings, flywheels, transmissions etc will all be the same options.
We do have a forum page on here for hemi...
Something to be said about a wiggley front end and the smell of exhaust and the look feel and smells of a 40 plus year old car to me I guess.
I can't tell you how many 3,000 mile plus road trips we took in my lifetime in everything from slant 6 cars to 440 cars from 66 belvedere wagons to 66/67...
You're right on the money, literally. We have also yet to push the possibility of retro-fitting a 5.7/6.1 GEN III Hemi with a small used Whipple/Kenne Bell setup. You want to talk resale, '64 Dodge 6.1 Supercharged' would be a serious contender on any market. A cam swap is nice, but then...
Hi Guys,
So I have decided to swap out the 440 Mag attached the to 727 tranny I got in my 72. Original motor was 383... bought it with the 440.
I need help from anyone who has done a swap before. I was leaning more towards a newer engine, been looking at a Viper motor, or a 5.7 Hemi. Then I...
You make a very good point, but I'm not sure I 100% agree with the comparison. Those 350 TPI's etc were just small blocks and could never touch a well built big block in stock form. The difference here is a 5.7 can perform as well or better than mild big blocks and is strong enough for some...
ok...having trouble deciding what to do. and actually getting cold feet. I have purchased a 5.7 hemi, already carbed with the indy mod man intake, hemi6 msd spark control etc...pretty easy swap all in all, motor mounts, oil pan away from setting it in...here is my problem.... im getting a little...
I HAVE DONE THIS EXACT SWAP!!!!!

Please read my build thread, you can start about page 12 to get to the wiring/computer nightmare part!
Bottom line is this. if you do not get the tone rings and speed sensors...
Hello all, I'm not new to the site, just don't post a lot. I've been soaking up all this great information on 5.7 Hemi swaps.
Just so happens, a friend of mine is the second owner of a 1970 Charger. This is a FM3 (panther pink),original color Dodge Charger. Yep, Pink. The Charger is or was...
That looks totally BITCHEN!!! How hard was it to put that modern dash in the car? Looks made to fit. First one I have seen. I thought about trying that but figured it would take too much work. My hats off on the perfect build!!
I am considering that option as it seems performance parts for the 5.9 seem limited. Very limiting heads for sure... The reason behind the 5.9 I picked up was for the fact it bolts in without expensive adapters. Seems to be able to handle the 500hp goal if built correctly. Headers and things...
Guys, I'm sure the OP is talking about his 5.7 hemi since this thread is in the "new hemi swaps". All factory 3g hemi's use a 3 jaw puller which pulls from the center hub and then the proper install tool to put it back on.
