Yup been looking at the 440Source assembly, lots of choices there. Starting to look like a 512 with their stealth heads, bolts and gaskets. Who's used their gaskets? Any opinions on my proposed combination
Well I'm on the other side of the fence here. You'll be fine with either vendor, but I'd use the 440Source before Hughes just based on customer treatment alone.
Parts quality is a wash as far as I'm concerned. They both use offshore crankshafts. The 440Source includes Clevite bearings, SCAT...
Just using a factory cast iron 440 block. The idiot who built the car put 440-218 step headers on using 440Sourceheads where on TTIs website it specifically says which heads work with the 218s and 440Source is not one of them.
That 361 is saddled with the tiny bore.
A 400 with a 3.75" stroke 440 crank is a proven torque mill and at 451 cubes, it is 90 more than you have now. You can build a set of 452 or 906 heads or even better, 440source aluminum ones painted engine color for the stock look.
Hi i have now a 440 that i have a 440source 505 stroker kit in w/10.8 static compression. Tf 240 heads.. pwr roller rocker 1.6 r and tf hyd roller cam 243/247 @50... I have now a edelbrock rpm dual plane and a quick fuel 780 hr vacuum on it now and a Mallory optic eye dissy.. but i wonder if i...
I was thinking decking it atleast. 050 but my engine builder thinks that's too much. He says 15 on one side and 20 on the other. I guess I need to CC the 440sourceheads and go from there.
I'd port the aluminum heads before spending $ on a compression increase. Power per dollar will be better. For what it's worth. I have a 73 Challenger that was built for my wife. 360, ported factory heads, LD340 dual plane, 650 Holley, 220/230 cam, headers, true 9.0-1, 3.55 gear. Runs on 87...
...here in germany.
Means 1500 to 5500 rpm...usually cruising.
Car has Power brakes
Engine will have:
750 holley double pumper
440sourceheads
Headers
Edelbrock DP4B Intake
Flat top pistons L2315
Compression should be around 9.3 to 9.5 or so.
I want a Roller Cam, no flat tappet.
I was...
This thread has been quiet for a while because the motor has been in the machine shop getting rebuilt. It is supposed to go to the dyno tomorrow. Accepting guesses for power level. Here is the spec:
512" RB 440source kit with lightweight crank
12.5:1 compression
Edelbrock Victor heads
Indy...
2618 pistons expand more when hot, .005 is a good clearance in my experience, if they are as tight as you measure it will scuff the skirts. On a racing engine I run them as loose as .007 to keep them from scuffing. Make sure when measuring the piston you do it in the right spot on the skirt...
Howdy all. So I bought a rebuilt 440 based 512 stroker short block.
It needs to run on 91 octane Cali pump swill gas and have enough vacuum for power brakes
Here’s the combo
Cam TFS 61602003 came with short block
Bore 4.350
Stroke 7.1
Crankshaft 4.25 440Source LW
Pistons 440Source # 5071...
...a decent cam at the time. Put a set of ported big valve heads on it from Hensley Racing and it became an animal. HUGE difference.
440sourceheads are an upgrade over the stock heads for sure. A little extra work will only help. Be sure to check the springs, valve job, etc. They may be fine...
...that is not impossible, the failure may have originated by the intake seat falling out. Anyone have any similar experience with 440Sourceheads? Seats falling out that is. I have no idea what cam is in it but it has dual springs and it's a hydraulic flat tappet.
It's now my task to...
I would choose Icon forged 1000% of the time over KB's at the same price point.
If Icons were $200 more than KB's....... I'd still take the Icons.
But I was lucky enough to buy three sets of new Ross, for $300/ea, a few years back. Like jewels compared to trw's.
