Hi, I've come to the conclusion my radiator is plugged. If I run at 1500 or below Rpm's it stays below 1/2 on the gauge..
I was descusing this with another guy on a different site and He suggested I can make a flushing system my self and clean it out with some water and acid.
HI
OK,, I've talked to some shops and
HI,
yes Thermostat 180*.. What I've been thinking about it being clogged up inside the out side is very clear you can see through very well... I Live in the capital city here and there is NO ONE that does radiator refurnish , Clean and rod or even repair...
HI,
Well I found out today if I stay 1500rpm's or lower it stays less than 1/2 way on the temp gauge.. I also noticed that my stock fan blade is crap metal very flexible and goes almost flat when adding RPM's to the motor.. So maybe a stiffer fan blade.. Timing is like 8 to 10* small block. cam...
HI,
OK.. I ether had the gaskets on wrong or a intake leak .. I had them replaced and without a shroud its running 1/2 way between the first mark and the 1/2 way mark on the gauge just like it used to ... So its fixed without a shroud... I checked the air flow and its moving are thru the core...
HI
Even without the thermostat it ran very hot (to boiling) coolant moves freely watching with out the cap. I don't need to just clean the outside I need to remove the spray Paint I painted it with I think that's where its plugged up
HI,
I think I know what I did... to make it look nice I painted the radiator and I think that's got it plugged up.. and not moving air..
Is there a way to clean it off/out like maybe brake fluid (I know that eats paint)? and hose it off with low pressure as to not bend up the vanes.
HI,
Thanks.. Yeah the heads are the same stock one's I had on it just had them cleaned and milled .010 and a valve job on them .. the cam was the only new component OH and the springs to match the cam..
Yes me too .. So I'm farming it out to a shop for head gasket removal replacement. the...
HI,
I never said it was leaking??? it does not leak any coolant .. and the flow is good/great ... Only time it lost coolant was when it was boiling but only lose a small amount overflow tank caught the majority of it all and as it cooled is was sucked back in..
HI,
Talked with my Machinist today.. about the over heating..
He said nothing we/he did would have caused the extrema overheating. it might have caused a small amount of heat but not enough to cause it to boil over.. Most likely the cause is the miss placement of the head gaskets or stuck...
HI, MY BAD......
Lets forget the need for a shroud... I've put 50,000+ miles as a daily driver on the rebuild without a shroud and it never even reached the 1/2 way on the gauge that whole time, until this cam change and head rebuild.. So I must have put the head gaskets on upside down.. Thanks...
HI,
Mine is a SB. 318 Thermostat is/was new but was a cheap brand. Maybe I should change that to a Stant.. Are the Head gaskets reversible on the Small blocks? I think I looked at them and FIRC they looked the same on both halfs of a gasket. I think I have the old gaskets I'll look
HI,
I just had a nightmare over night..
I did have the heads done as well as changing the cam.. Could I have installed the head gaskets upside down??????
Some car guy... I'll put a timing light on it today. I didn't do any jetting change. carb is a 450 QF.
HI,
Just did some high traffic with lots of stops and it's boiling in the radiator. gauge went up to like 3/4 of the way.. 185* stat.
Maybe I should bite the bullet and get a bigger radiator .. tho I didn't ever have that problem before the cam change? Once it cools down I'm going to check the...
HI,
I've decided to work on getting a shroud for it.. There's is one on E bay but the shipping charges are over $100.. I'm going to check the U pull it yards here..
