Moving on from my7 blade fan to no thermostat??

HI,
Well running without a thermostat cause it to run hot especially in traffic? Its not boiling over now but getting purity hot
 
I ran mine briefly without a thermostat when I was getting the rust out of the block.
It ran pretty cold maybe 150? but I didn't drive it in traffic.
Is your radiator any good?
 
A thermostat is there for a reason. Not a good idea to run without one.
 
If everything else is up to snuff, 150* is about it. You’ve got problems somewhere else.
 
I had a never ending overheating problem until I looked up the PN on the fan and found it only had an inch of pitch and was for a slant-6. It had 7 blades which it turns out means little to nothing about how good the fan works.

I changed to a 2-1/2" pitch fan and now it will blow a hat off your head and runs right around the thermostat temp (185) after it's warmed up.

It's worth looking into. More pitch is more better.

The flat /6 fan was a 200, the one I use now is a 215 or 216. The parts book lists the pitch on the factory fans so you get the best one.

I think I know what I did... to make it look nice I painted the radiator and I think that's got it plugged up.. and not moving air..
Is there a way to clean it off/out like maybe brake fluid (I know that eats paint)? and hose it off with low pressure as to not bend up the vanes.
 
More likely the inside is clogged. The exterior can be cleaned with Spray 9, Fantastic or similar products. If removing the thermostat actually helps, it is a sign the radiator is clogged. Never run with no thermostat, as running too cold can be a problem. Use a real high flow, like a stock factory one from the early 70's or an EMP/Stewart from Summit.

Even without the thermostat it ran very hot (to boiling) coolant moves freely watching with out the cap. I don't need to just clean the outside I need to remove the spray Paint I painted it with I think that's where its plugged up
 
Hi, I've come to the conclusion my radiator is plugged. If I run at 1500 or below Rpm's it stays below 1/2 on the gauge..
I was descusing this with another guy on a different site and He suggested I can make a flushing system my self and clean it out with some water and acid.
 
I doubt that painting the outside of the radiator is your problem. Did your supposed heating problem start after you painted it? Most old radiators were painted black. I even painted my aluminum radiator black.
 
If there is debris in thre rad tubes, then ' flushing' will do nothing. Nothing.....because the considerable pressure developed by the water pump has jammed the debris in the tubes. Rad needs to be removed & rodded out. That could cost as much as a new alum radiator which is more efficient....

HI,
Would a cross flow be better than a stock down flow? the only problem I would have is re rooting the Trans cooling lines..
