Iron heads appeal to two types of people. CHEAP dudes and guys that are obligated to use them for specific racing classes.
If someone is willing to pay even $100 for these heads, I'd be surprised. They are not rare and not hard to find. They are...
...intake, 247 exhaust at .050 on a 110 center lobe. It will have around 10 to 10 1/2 compression. It had 10 to one compression with 440sourceheads. The last engine I had in it had so much cam that the brakes would go out now and then. Or would an hydraulic cam be better? Any info I can get...
I'm hoping it goes well for you sir. Even with all of the great guys here to help me along, there's just so much to consider. I just got a kit from 440source that arrived just today. But my machinist has had the block for 2 weeks. I've never done a kit like this before and it was very confusing...
I think the 452's is the right answer for you.
If you really want aluminum heads (they'll make more power than stock 452's, for sure) I'd revert to the 440source stealth.
In your research, study which heads have raised exhaust ports. Would be a nightmare for your situation.
I'd get some edelbrock small chamber E-Street heads, or maybe 440source stealth heads. The better airflow and lighter weight will really help.
Then just a bunch of tuning before deciding on the next change.
Mini starter is it; Now which one? I run long tube headers and iron heads which means this is a 4-5 hour repair on my back letting antifreeze down, pulling headers, tight wiring conditions etc.. I started with the 440Source mini and it made it 3 years, 17,000 miles for reference. Knowing I...
My .040" over 440 has around a 10.2:1 CR with ported 440Source aluminum heads and a solid lifter cam installed at 104° CL, 108°LSA, 246° / 250° duration at .050". 21 initial/36 all in timing and I run 88 clear gas without issue. I'm in NM and we get into the triple digits. My AFRs are great...
470 stroker kit from 440source, Edelbrock performer rpm heads, full roller engine, Edelbrock performer rpm intake, Edelbrock AVS2 850cfm carb, TTI headers, FBO complete ignition set up ( coil, ignition module, distributor) I have to look up cam specs
It’s not complicated. It’s just new to you so it seems like it is.
It sounds like your machine shop has antiquated equipment. It’s okay. The last time I had a block decked not off the crank centerline was 35 years ago.
Also, the machine shop can inspect and measure your block now and tell...
440source,sidewinder,Edelbrock E street, etc. for a typical flat tappet hot rod type build.
If your heads are ready to go then use them unless you have cash to burn. If they need reworking then I would consider upgrading.
I did get the block hot tanked so they pulled all the plugs. I'm going with new aluminum 'stealth' heads from 440Source. Plus a .488/.491 cam from Comp Cams. Topped off with a Edelbrock intake and 750 cfm carb. I thinking 400+ hp!
Spot on! A year ago .I started with bare block, factory crank and rods for a 440. After boring .030, 440Sourceheads, Hughes can, JE Pistons, Doug's headers, Performer RPM, and a dyno tuned Holley.....and some other items WITH machining and the build ....10k. Oh, that also included the dyno pulls.
So I have a fresh build 1977 440 .060 over. Torker 2 intake, Stealth aluminum heads, .541 intake/.537 Exhaust roller cam, Crane roller 1.5 rocker arms ( Forged crank with 440source Flat top pistons pushed by Manly aluminum connecting rods. PTC (Performance Torque converter built to a tight...
I have a cast crank 76 440 in my 63. The PO had installed the very heavy speedpro 6 pack pistons I left them and installed a set of 440source CNC Stealth heads, Isky 292 mega cam,RPM intake, Holley 750 double pumper, and Doug’s D452 headers. 3k converter and 373 gears. I’m very pleased with the...
Has any one had issue with the OEM valve covers leaking on the 440Sourceheads? I've tried a few different fixes with no luck. I saw a post in the past about this but can not recall all the details.
