We have a big block that I want to slap together. It has all the parts in boxes. We thought we'd hone the cylinders and I suppose we should use some light oil but what kind/weight oil?
This is a Used OEM Big Block Oil Pump #2203260. It is original
not a china knockoff. It is in good condition. The four original
attaching bolts are not shown in the pictures, but are included.
$25.00. Local pickup, or buyer pays shipping.
Purchased a new oil pan, EBay (may have been my first mistake). The bottom of the new pan is smaller length wise, about 8” vs 10” on existing. The existing is about 4” plus depth vs 5” on the new one. The old does not stick down much lower than the k member. This one will. All indications...
Lake Speed, the Motor Oil Geek, has interesting videos on oil...& zinc. It is about 20 min, maybe somebody can link it. Oil with 1200ppm Zinc was used with FT cam, no issues.
Then a Zinc 'supplement' with 3600 ppm Zinc was added to the oil. Cam/lifters failed soon afterwards.
Moral of the story...
Very clean "402" oil pan for a 440 or 383. Driver quality unit that was cleaned, primed and painted with street hemi orange paint. $125 plus the ride to your house from 06484. PayPal F&F.
This is a topic that I never thought of. Oil drainback. Look at the picture of the deck of an LA series:
Here is a 440 block.
All I can see in both blocks are coolant holes and head bolt holes. Does all the oil that makes it to the rocker gear drain back through the lifter valley?
I see...
...rear main seal leak on my coronets 318. After trying four different seals I was able to stop the leak. A couple of weeks ago I noticed a drop of oil at the bottom of the bell housing and panicked! I removed the transmission inspection port and no oil buildup inside the bell housing. Which...

DOT is tearing up the road near my house. Slowly drove over a slightly raised man hole cover and it hit my oil pan. No leaks so far. I didn’t lose oil pressure and everything seems fine.
This is my first time being dumb enough to do this. Should have just driven around it.
Do you typically...
Verify your engine oil pressure with a mechanical gauge. Amazon and others sell a tool that works well.
Don't use Teflon tape on the threads of the sending unit.

Good Morning All! I am adding a set of oil/ Temp Gauges in my 67 GTX. Can anyone tell or show me where to attach the red, orange and black wires that are coming out of the back of both gauges? I am not electrically inclined but can tackle anything.
Very Good Condition. 440 Source fabricated aluminum oil pan.
From 440Source.com - "Our brand new hand FABRICATED ALUMINUM oil pans are 100% USA made in house. Fully TIG welded from sheet aluminum with a solid billet rail, they rival or exceed the quality of similar "name brand" parts that cost...
Oil pressure gauge reads normally each time when the engine is started - cold and at temp. Reads pressures for a few minutes, and readings in normal range.
After a few minutes gauge goes to zero and stays there. Put a new sending unit in today. No change. Interestingly, the unit came with some...

Is nothing at all just simple, cut & dry these days? Rather than change the oil at the regular quickie shop I frequent (where they always over-tighten the oil filters) I purchased some motor oil at Sam's Club (store brand) for one of our two Jeep Cherokee XJ's.
Brought a breaker bar and a...
