You could put it in your car and enjoy. It might have low compression, but it still has 350 ft lbs torque for fun. Drive and enjoy while you pick off deals on FBBO and eBay for the parts to build. You can keep driving it until you have everything you need. Once torn down, the driving option...

I was in Facility Management, from the front driveway to the back fence we did it all... General Contractor type stuff, trades mostly, but not always, lots of cabling & computers/hardware set up stuff too, they were clueless how to do most... Sadly & now Union shops 'auto dealerships' service...

More good suggestions than bad in the replies to your post, however if it runs good now and the compression checks out, then get the right oil pan/pickup installed, add a mild cam (under .480 lift and under 228 degrees of duration - the Hughes Whiplash cam that you considered is good here, but...
