Doctor Diff question.

I’m at work so I’m not able to get on right away. He replied with answers to my first round of questions in about an hour. So far so good.
I'll say it again, sole proprietor operation.. email rocks. He had 10 spare minutes, probably while eating his lunch and got back to you, vs being interrupted setting up a set of gears by the phone ringing.

I'll share my experience here. I ordered the bearing kit for a 742 carrier rebuild. It states on his website "Timken USA" bearings. Well, the kit arrived today.
No USA marking anywhere, and the one race was labeled "India". I texted him and asked what gives? He claims the bearings are made in USA.

So let me get this straight - Timken stopped labeling their bearings USA, but are still made in USA?! What a line of bullshit.

He offered to replace the race from India - this was after he asked that I send him pics. Which I did, but doesn't HE know what he's selling?

Doctor Diff will never get my business again. If I wanted global Timken products, I would have ordered from Amazon (cheaper) and got 'em the next day - not eight days later through USPS.
Rant Over.

I agree.
Some vendors sell stuff that they do not actually have in their own stock, the parts often are shipped through a distributor. Maybe Cass didn't know that his supplier had substituted a part?
Dr Diff will never get my business again!

apologies for not updating this sooner. Nothing against Dr. diff but the email only just didn’t work for me. I spent 15 minutes on the phone with a Strange tech and 2 weeks later it’s sitting in my shop. Like I said, nothing against the guy I’m just old school and want to talk not email.

Just an FYI,
Timken probably isn’t making automotive bearings in the USA anymore.

Edit:
I think the ideal replacement for Timken bearings would be Japanese or German made. But I don’t know if they make them.

My experiences with Dr Diff have all been very positive
Not a rear end but I did order a Strange driveshaft kit
it came in fast, was affordable and fit perfectly
Cass has also been a great resource when I was swapping to a dual Master and disc brakes

How much damage did that thing do to your car?

A bit
I was lucky in that it was up on a dyno at the time
and the shaft was slung down striking the shop floor
It took out the 3" exhaust system with 1 electric
broke both yokes and the pinion bearing
the shaft put a small dent in the floorboard that was easily beat out (it didn't have to pretty)

Sounds like you got lucky, it could have been way worse.
