First Time Changing Rear Main Seal

Well this weekend is my first time changing a rear main seal ever. Engine still in the car. Seen some videos but they cover Ford and Chevy. I know to install the side with the lip towards the front of the engine and to have each half a bit off center. I just am not sure about the side seal...

How much rear main seal oil loss is considered normal for our cars?

On this block the drivers side of the retainer needed to be flush with the back of the block for perfect alignment, and moved .020 forward to align on the passenger side. No way to know this in car. The retainer slides a lot, always offset the seal in problem blocks if changing in the car or use...

Hello brother - yes I changed the sending unit way back in 2019 for a new one BUT you have reminded me that the threads can leak and also the insert can crack (or so I read) so I am going to get in there and check that - thanks for the reminder!!

    Re-Rebuilding the 440-493 in a 1970 Charger

With the master cylinder bench bled and installed, I finished up a few more things. Mary helped bleed the hydraulic clutch, then I poured in 4 gallons of 91 octane gas, connected the lead wire to the starter, connected the battery, filled the carburetor float bowls with gas, checked all my...

My 1978 Dodge Monaco 4 door sedan.

Great car and great thread! Have you tried changing your oil pressure sending unit. If this is leaking it looks a lot like the rear main seal. Changing the oil pressure sending unit helped a lot on my 360 Cordoba.

B Engine rear main seal leak repair options.

Good luck changing it with the motor in the car. Been there done that! Consider the new style rear seal and holder that's out there but don't deviate from the instructions or you'll be doing it twice or maybe three times.

RE: Are girdles needed on a 440 ?

well, I have a oil leak; appears to be the rear main seal. Haven't driven the car with the new motor since cancer surgery at the VA. Went out for a shake down run and noticed oil dripping from the bell housing. After pulling the oil pan, I find out the engine builder didn't install the...

After I finished off the '64 build last summer, http://www.forbbodiesonly.com/moparforum/showthread.php?35850-64-330-Street-Hemi-build (shameless plug) I spent the rest of the time driving and breaking it in. Resealing an old 318

Picked up a felpro gasket set to seal up my 1974 318 which seams to be leaking everything from everywhere. Today I pulled my timing cover, valve covers and oil pan. There I was, laying on my back under my charger changing the rear main seal with the engine in the car. I moved my light around and it reflected off something shiny by the left front tire. I roll the creeper that way, and what do I see? a 3/4 Craftsman wrench wedged against the upper control...
