Problems/failures suck but it's also an opportunity to make it better.
Is there any goal as far as power or anything else for the combo?
Guess I could just throw in my two cents but may not apply to you. Started with a project car that came with a "crate" 426 that was rebuilt, presumably...
Based on some of your other threads-
To start, if you haven't, you need to find number 1 tdc. Actual TDC. Could use a dial indicator through the plug hole or even a piece of coat hanger with lines drawn on it to get close.
Then confirm timing mark on dampener aligns with tdc on tab. If it...
Sure you can of course with the right parts. I didn't keep the 3.75 stroke because I thought more would limit rpm. In my case running the tko600 I didn't want to exceed the torque limit on the trans so I thought gear it short and spin it relatively high to be fun.
Mine makes peak power at...
Yes, I meant on mine low lash not low lift (though it really isn't much lift either). My cam is made for .010 hot lash. I set it .008 cold.
262/262 .428/.421 lobe lift, measured .658/.612 at the valve
I'll throw in my .02 cents. My 426 hemi started out as a 90's mopar performance/cummins "crate" engine which was a complete pos.
I rebuilt it at stock stroke, overbore to 438ci. Solid roller, morel black mamba roller lifters, cam motion low lift solid roller cam to my spec. PSi springs, ti...
What is the history of the cranks? (any possible cracking/damage) If CCW and known good I would use but also like rpm.
Maybe could offset grind? Any goals? (hp, max rpm?)
Agreed the cable quality is very important. To that point, also be careful of what you're buying as there is some copper coated aluminum cable out there that looks the part but is complete trash.
Mine is a chunker, especially for not having AC. Gen 2 hemi with iron heads but aluminum intake and radiator. TKO600, Dana 60. The newer Chrysler seats are pretty heavy and I put dynamat in the whole car. Subframe connectors. Steel flywheel, carbon fiber driveshaft.
Can you post dyno sheets of the previous runs. May be some evidence as to what's going on.
Hyd lifter can only 'pump up' if control is lost (which is certainly possible as it seems like there were some errors here)
Just take your time and make the templates perfect. If you cut it shy don't guess, even add some folded tape to the edge and trim again until perfect. Then your parts will fit perfect.
If you're bead rolling trace your patterns with a sharpie and cut your parts at the outside edge of the...
I like doing work like this. I would use poster board for templates. Aluminum sheet, bead rolled for aesthetics and added stiffness. Also would use rivnuts and button head fasteners instead of rivets in case I needed access.
