I think you're over thinking this. If it works and it's safe, you're good to go.
I haven't bought anything specific ever to make a linkage work, other than generic nuts or bolts from the hardware store. I usually just go to my stash.

I can't clearly see and you may already know but each time I install an UCA, I put the rear section adjusted all the way IN toward the engine and the front section all the way OUT towards the fender. This allows you a medium amount of negative camber and some positive caster.

I totally agree. That's why I never replaced mine.
Never had them re-chromed, either. If I did, I'd lose my 1972 coledge parking stickers ;-(
That's strange because when I opened up my 4 speed in '69 to replace a chipped gear (due to a missing thrust washer on the end of the cluster gear -- factory error) the trans was filled with gear lube, not ATF.
I've been running 80-90 lube in there for 56 years and it shifts just fine. It was...
