Afternoon, been awhile since I was here last! Found a running, driving 75 Coronet wagon for a really great price that is in desperate need of a new gas tank. The stock replacement for it runs dang near 800 bucks up here in Canada, but in doing some research I believe I can get an earlier b-body...
Anyone here know what the deck clearance on a 400 is? Mine is running absolutely perfect right now, just planning ahead for some future mods and don't feel like tearing a head off just to check. I've heard 3 numbers, .125, .121 and .080 below the deck.
A friend of mine swears that his 76 small block Cordoba has 2.14's in the rear, I've looked everywhere and can't find any mention of such a tall gear available in these cars. Is he mistaken or is Google just failing me on this one? That thing must accelerate at about half the speed of smell.
So I was under the rear of the Cordoba the other day getting ready to put the new shocks on and as I slid out from underneath it, I noticed something off about the rear leaf spring perch on the drivers side. It was getting dark so I grabbed my flashlight and what I saw made my heart sink. The...
Well, got my Summit G9041 headers in the other day along with their universal 2.5" x-pipe kit. For being such cheap units, the headers are amazingly well built with extremely thick flanges at the head as well as the collectors and very good welds. Two of the tubes are also dimpled for steering...
Is shifting early more a symptom of incorrect, or misadjusted linkage? Drove my big block 76 Cordoba for the first time after an engine swap the other night, and due to no registration or insurance yet, stuck to the alleys so speeds were extremely low. Can't recall what speed it was at, but...
Alrighty, I know the green and the brown wire are for the alternator, but I can't seem to find where the blue w/yellow stripe wire goes. All three are together but the blue one is a few inches longer than the other two. I have a wiring diagram, but can't find it anywhere on it. The car is a...
How many different sizes of flex plates did the factory make for the 400's? The engine I just put in my 76 Cordoba is out of a 77 Newport, got underneath it last night to bolt the converter to the plate and it's at least 1/2" to 3/4" smaller. Not a big deal as I can just take the plate off of...
Anybody have a source for an engine wiring diagram for a 76 big block Cordoba? It's been converted from lean burn already, just got a little over zealous when unplugging everything before the engine swap.
Would there be any drawbacks to having no baffle in my oil pan? I got if off the 400 last night, and someone in the past has cut it out with what looks like tin snips. Thought it was kind of odd.
Possible silly question, just warning you all now! Do the later big blocks have a factory installed windage tray? I need to swap oil pans from my old 400 to the "new" one and in looking up the pan gasket, it says use 2 with windage tray. Thought I'd check before ordering.
I'm pretty sure I know the answer, but will the TTi exhaust systems fit on a 76 Cordoba with the single exhaust tank? Even with the exchange to get it into Canada, it's still cheaper than any of the exhaust shops around here.
So I'm pulling the 400 out of my Cordoba as it's dry seized after sitting for 26 years and replacing it with a running one, but as I was working on it last night it occurred to me, what do I do about the torque converter to flexplate bolts as I can spin the engine? How risky is it to take the...
I thought these valve covers I bought might be old Cal Customs, but there's no markings on them other than a stamp that says JAPAN 779 on the inside. It looks like you can remove the rectangular part in the center to put tall breathers in. The previous owner painted them. Anyone ever seen any...
I knew I'd find another car sooner or later and punt the current project to the curb! A friend found this 76 big block out in Saskatchewan slated to be crushed within the next couple of weeks, so after some quick negotiating, it's coming home! Great to be back, hopefully will have the 76 home...
Glad too see this place so active still after not being here in quite some time!
The last time I posted I believe I had just rebuilt the carb and was getting ready to bolt it back on. Well we did, and the old girl ran like a top. Took it for a short drive, got it all ready to come home and...
So, got the Cordoba to fire and run for a few seconds after getting some fuel in the float bowl through the vent, but still can't get it to run on fuel from the tank. I was assured more that once that the tank was siphoned dry right after it was parked, so a bunch of old fuel isn't my main...
