1972 Roadrunner Firewall Rust Issue Suggestions

Bruzilla, thank you for the reminder. "Good enough" is just that. Sometimes I need the reminder on my own projects, since I suffer from engineer's disease (letting the perfect become the enemy of the good enough).

    cleaning calcium from radiator

When I needed to clean mine out, I used Prestone's super flush with good results. Had it not worked, I was seriously considering the same stuff I use to clean firearm brass with excellent results. I mix a couple of tsp . LemiShine and a few drops of Dawn dish soap in a 2l-sized ultrasonic...

Disc Brake Conversion for 71 satellite

You will definitely need a disc-brake master cylinder to complete the job right. You'll also need to replace the metering valve in the drum brake setup with a proportioning valve. I don't know whether the power booster is different between the full drum and disc/drum setups, but I wouldn't...

    Hello From Texas

Wes, Welcome from just up the road from you...I'm near Jones & Grant myself. We've got a few nice Mopars in the area you might have seen around, and it looks like the "Mopar Corner" at Nifty Fifties gained a few cars this last season. Look forward to seeing your pics/projects and maybe...

    Today, I officially Feel Old!

I get that. It didn't come out when I was an adult, but the first NEW truck I got was an '88 Chevy, then an '89 Chevy. Under Texas' standards, both of these trucks are "classics" and qualify for special license plates, no emissions testing, etc. It was a shocker to me when I realized that. It...

A Cautionary Tale on Chain Repair Shops

Poor car, poor guy. Yes, this is the very reason that the few repair shops I like to visit smell like grease traps, you have to wait on the "service writer" to come out from under the car he's working on, and you don't want to sit down on anything in your good suit. In fact, it's a criteria for...

'72 Satellite Rear quarter glass/trim questions

I haven't replaced mine on the Plymouth yet--but I started replacing one on the '67 Skylark this weekend (very similar setup) -- on that car it's just a matter of putting a little silicone on the new gasket, and sliding it down the channel. I'm hoping the Plymouth will be as simple once I find...

Power Steering Gear Box Change out

Well, I'd think that paying a pro 10 hours is excessive...but, after having just done mine on my '72, I'll admit I've got at least that tied up into it. I ended up pulling the header, and the column. I was having hell getting to the three magic bolts, until it dawned on me that the steering...

Testing power amps - am I doing it right?

It's been a *LOONG* time since I messed with car audio...BUT if memory serves: You don't say exactly how you hooked the known-good CD player up, whether you came from a headset jack, speaker-out terminals or RCA jacks, so forgive me if I'm covering ground you've already covered. The RCA-style...

'72 Satellite Rear quarter glass/trim questions

A million thanks, Mark, that really helps me along. So it looks like I only have one broken trim piece...and that the windows don't have to come completely out of the car to replace them. And it tells me that some of the alleged pics I've been seeing for the back quarter window glass in a '72...

    How about a sign ?

Well, *I* like it, and it pretty well says it all. "You have now been properly negotiated with".... Who cares if other people think you're not playing with a full deck. Anyone can be "normal" :) Thank you for your service!

do we need a scam beware section on this board

One of the gun forums I visit frequently has a section for "Straight Shooters and Deadbeats." Anyone can post a "straight shooter" thread, but it takes an admin to authorize a "deadbeat" thread...very few deadbeat threads, or even requests for them on that site all told, but the ones that do...

    busted knuckle pictures

OUCH! I don't think I've ever thought to take a picture right after it happened. Wife took a couple of pictures of one of my fingers after it got intimate with a table saw, but I don't think she kept 'em. I do have a couple of memories of busted knuckles/fingers/hands tied to cars, farm...

    Turn signal lever help

Mine ('72) is plastic, and I have the whole column out of the car right now. It's a slight crush/pull fit on mine, pulled together and held by the screw into the turn signal lever. I have no idea as to whether mine is original, but I suspect not. I'm putting a few drops of blue loc-tite to hold...

New brake rotors for 72 SSP - Anybody purchased from this company ???

They look good to me, and if you've still got the '72 spindles on the car, that's not a bad price at all from what I've seen.

    Drip Rail Moldings

Thanks, Mark! this info really helps me understand what I'm dealing with. It appears I need 71-72 Plymouth or 73-74 Dodge trim, and specifically for non-vinyl roof (since mine's painted, regardless of how it came from the factory). As always, knowing what you need is the biggest part of the...

    Drip Rail Moldings

GOTCHA...that makes sense. So the physical channel on the car should be the same either way, and the thicker moulding compensates for the thickness of the vinyl over the metal rail on the car... Excellent info, and Thank you!

    Drip Rail Moldings

That's a good start. If the difference is in the width of the trim, it may not affect the actual fit of the trim against the steel railing on the car -- in other words, it may not be "correct" but if it fits my roof panel, and looks better than the painted metal physical rail, I may be better...
