Thanks for taking the time to help out. I will isolate the screw from the terminal and see if that takes care of my issue. If not I'm going to assume I have the wrong alternator

I could imagine!! So there should be an insulator there also on that terminal? It's also a different size spade so the connector really doesn't fit onto it

It looks like the lower terminal does not have an insulator but the upper does.

I can connect my DVOM to the positive terminal of the battery and ground the negative side to either brush terminal behind the alternator and show 12 volts on the meter. So when I do hook up that blue wire to the back of the alternator, it initially jumps a good spark.
