So I did manage to get a pickup to thread in, barely. I still don't believe that its fully fixed and I hope oil problems don't plague me over this. The engagement is way less than ideal and I think that the angle on the pickups themselves aren't seating well with my pan. But I can get the pan...
Wouldn't the only difference be you'd have to cut deeper if they're both straight? It would make sense that the bite I am getting on the tap is about from the 3/4 mark and up. The taper is getting bigger and engaging with the straight pipe threads. Although, if you think about it, depending on...
Thanks! Got the motor coming together pretty nicely. All the suspension is there waiting to get finagled together and I had practice on this E body I own. Ready to get back and get her started!
Yeah, that's where I get the back and forth haha. Some say straight (NPS) Some say not (NPT). Luckily using an NPT tap won't hurt it then since it's tapered anyway. Pitch and number should be the same.
I'll vote that a hundred times over. I also vote Moving Pictures probably the best mixed album in history, especially with the bass tone and guitar chime.
Ok, so the situation seems much better. I bought a little brass plug to test so I wouldn't mangle the threads anymore doing attempts. It originally would barely thread and get stuck a thread or two in. After chasing with tap and break in oil (I find the zinc helps form threads and reduces tap...
I'm hoping the fact I'm using an NPT tap with that slight taper may get me settled just deep enough since the damage seems to be right on the top two thread rows.
So some members wanted some photos, figured I'd oblige a little. Better pics to come in the future.
Here is a link online to the Roadrunner I wound up buying and dragging out of the mud outside of San Bernadino.

Thanks dude. I should have joined a long time ago. Always had been too timid and felt like I wasn't a true car guy.
Well 5 rough and dirty engine rebuilds, disc brake conversions, fuel and brake line runs, and hundreds of hours pouring over 40 year old tech manuals, forums like these, and...
RIP man. What a shocking thing too. Didn't even see it coming.
Been a fan since I was like, 15 (33 now). 2112 changed the way I saw music and opened up a lot more than just heavy riffs and metal. Made me grow up in ways I never expected and see the world different.
