Do you have a '69-'72 pump? I ask that because the fittings changed on the pump to a 3/8 male with the o-ring after '68, and 68-down used the inverted flare.
For drums, you tighten the nut to 90 in.lbs while rotating, then line up an open slot in the retainer with the cotter pin hole and back off one slot with the retainer in place before installing cotter. This will give between .000"-.003" endplay. I would think yours would use the same procedure...
There were prior threads about this. With mine I did a thorough cleaning after disassembly, then generously filled the o-ring groove with ultra black rtv and reassemble. Let it completely dry and trim excess squeezeout with a new blade. Repainted and installed. Hasn't leaked in over 5 years.
I eliminated the o-ring completely and filled the groove with plenty of ultra black rtv. Reassembled and trimmed excess with a blade once it fully cured, repainted it and hasn't leaked in 4 years.

If you decide to use the ultra black you can eliminate the o rings.
If, however you insist on using them I have a new kit that I didn't need since the rtv did the trick. I can send it to you no charge.
Had a similar leak in my trw pump for decades. After complete disassembly and cleaning, and removal of the large o-ring, I filled the o-ring groove with plenty of ultra black rtv, along with where the reservoir seals to the pump on the back bracket bolt. Let it completely dry, trimmed cured...
