A great driver that I think you should keep! Student Loans are being forgiven all the time; I wish I had not paid for my daughter's college.
Anyhow, I think you should ask around 24 for the car and negotiate. Here is the Hagerty valuation numbers:
Suspicious is the ammeter and bulkhead connectors. Short to ground usually opens a fuse or fusible link. I've seen ammeter connectors get white hot and just at the threshold of smoldering. A resistance to gnd got really hot for a long time and started the fire.
Keep in mind if the insurance company wants to total the car you should negotiate a price and walk away. If the insurance company is open to restoration you will have to put up some money as there will be debates over responsibility for damages versus "repair" during the restoration.
My recommendation is to either total the car and get a check and walk away, or work with the insurance company and get it restored. Don't rush to salvage title status so fast.
Friend of mine bought his car back from the insurance company after a major accident and that seemed to be a headache...
This is a thought that's always in the back of my mind. Hopefully damage was limited to just the car and your structure is okay.
Let us know how the insurance company treats you.
Water under the bridge now, but I have battery disconnect on every old car in the garage. I'm also in the habit of...
This photo was taken 16 years ago today. I miss this car. Other than transmission failure at 89k and 174k miles it was a great ride. I never had any other issues with the exception of constantly leaking valve covers on the Mitsubishi 3.0 V6. The AC was still blowing cold on it's original R12...
The doors have drains that could clog.
There is also a barrier shield between the door card and frame that needs to be installed properly.
I doubt felts will impact the amount of water you are seeing.
Hagerty valuation used to be really accurate, but I've noticed they lean to the low side lately. Data is supposed to track auction sales, but they must be behind on the updates.
Price went from 58 OBO to 62 Firm. Seller ignored my inquiries. I'm done he can keep it.

Hello
I've filled out the contact seller form in Hemmings. Awaiting reply.
This car is slightly over my budget, but it is pretty close to exactly what I've been looking for the past several years.
Anyone in the area know this vehicle...
