Suspicious is the ammeter and bulkhead connectors. Short to ground usually opens a fuse or fusible link. I've seen ammeter connectors get white hot and just at the threshold of smoldering. A resistance to gnd got really hot for a long time and started the fire.

Continuity from the battery thru the ammeter is always there. For example headlights and brake light work regardless of key position.

Keep in mind if the insurance company wants to total the car you should negotiate a price and walk away. If the insurance company is open to restoration you will have to put up some money as there will be debates over responsibility for damages versus "repair" during the restoration.

The doors have drains that could clog. There is also a barrier shield between the door card and frame that needs to be installed properly. I doubt felts will impact the amount of water you are seeing.
