    I see now how the crush sleeve comes into play. I thought it was just to seat in the gap and seal a bit the front hole of the third member not to get the proper space between the pinion teeth and the threaded part where the yoke nut bolts in.

    to be sure i understand properly since english isnt my primary language the preload is the torque resistance when turning the pinion right? if yes then i might be a simpleton but wouldnt screwing the yoke nut little by little unti the torque resistance is the same be the way to go?

    i have a 489 third member on my car, i also have a spare 489 third member with a 10splines 7290 yoke (took me 20 min to pull it out this evening), now i m kinda scared to pull out the one installed on my car and destroy the seal to see if it s a 10 or a 29 splines

    I wanted people's opinion on their preferred cruising rpm. I will soon get a new 408ci engine, I have a tf727 my gear ratio is 3.73 and my tires are 28 inch so at 60 mph I should be going at something like 3 to 3.2k rpm. Is it considered too high for some long distance trip.
