    Alternator Issue

Are you checking voltage at idle? Most alternators do not charge well at idle (under 1200 RPM). When you go to have an alternator in your car tested at places like autozone, they usually tell you to keep RPMs at about 2k. When I'm looking at voltage on a running car, I always keep the RPMs...

    MAD/Nacho Electrical Wiring mods

The reason for the parallel is to add extra wire so the smaller gauge wire doesn't get "overloaded" from higher amperage powering too much. As long as you're not running more current than what the wire allows, you should be fine to remove the smaller wire.

Wiring an electric fan. I am a novice with electrical

Make sure you're relay is big enough to handle the initial startup draw. Some fans have huge amp draws at startup. Some relays will struggle with the load and eventually burn up. I used heavy duty style relays on mine even with the controller. Mine was wired with a 3-way switch: auto, off, and...

    Viper Security Systems?

Installed correctly, aftermarket alarms work well with factory systems. Most of the time it's just the settings need adjusted or another module for factory compatibility needs added. Unplugging the system isn't the answer. If it was ONLY remote start, then yes, unplug the unit and it'll be...

    Electric fans killing ignition.

Charge your battery. It could be charged enough to crank, but not enough to get the car running. Extra grounds won't hurt anything. Lol

    Electric fans killing ignition.

Are the relays adequate amperage? Fans use A LOT of power to get started. I used large relays to compensate the initial startup of amp draw. Most alternators don't put out much juice at idle. As stated above, check your voltage at the battery during the different times: key off, key on...

Correct timing light for MSD ignition

Don't laugh guys, but I have an older harbor freight no name fixed light that works with the MSD. Every once in a great while, the light will be erratic, but not very often. The cheap dial one does not work properly when car's at idle or lower RPMs. The dial seems to work when car is at higher...

    Timing advance

It sounds like I need to experiment with different spring combinations to figure out what my engine prefers. As long as I figure out what my total is, then I can figure out where my curve should be based upon how my engine responds while driving. Thank you all for your input.

    Timing advance

Is there a time that you would want your advance to come in sooner? Is it best to have the curve throughout your given RPM range? The reason I'm asking about this is because I was having timing issues. I have an MSD distributor and trying to follow others' setups but my timing seemed to be...

    Timing advance

I'm somewhat confused about timing advance. I understand that as your RPM's increase, you want the timing to advance to keep up with the RPM's. What I don't understand is what determines how and when your timing should be ALL IN. Is it a preference?Wouldn't you want your timing to continue to...

    Replacement stereo center dash speaker

You can use just about any radio with just about any speakers. Most compatibility issues is with the wiring and how it's done. As mentioned above, I would also recommend 4 ohm speakers.

    60 amp alternator wiring

Going to your original point.... You will have to cut and splice wires if your car IS NOT set up the same as the diagram you are looking at. There are plenty of open areas on the firewall to drill a hole and use a grommet to run the new wire. Hope that helps a little.

    60 amp alternator wiring

The car pulls from the alternator. Unless the voltage regulator is bad, the car will never see the full output of a larger alternator unless the car demands that much power.

    60 amp alternator wiring

When I did mine, I found an extra hole in the firewall to run the wire through. I bypassed my ammeter. The extra wiring made the alternator charge better at idle.

    Amp meter elimination

Oxidation and/or corrosion are usually the first things to look for. That, and bad grounds. Lol

    Amp meter elimination

I had charging issues at one time. I upgraded my wiring. Solved my problems.

    Amp meter elimination

The main reason for failure of wires going to the ammeter is due to corrosion or loose terminals. Running the additional wire like suggested above will help with the load through the bulkhead. As long as you connect the wires together securely, you can bypass it. The ammeter is nice but...

    Alternator question

I had the same problem. My turn signals would not blink if sitting at a stop. The battery was not charging properly. Newer electrical components were bought trying to find the faulty area. Replacing or upgrading the wiring was the fix. New wires and new links too. No need to replace lots of...
