    440 engine

I was under the impression that the 440 with 6 pack rods and damper went in the R/T. The 440 Magnum (HP). I am not positive, but recall that from rebuilding mine...and no, I didnt sleep at a Holiday Inn Express last night. In other words...I could be incorrect (I know, shocker...right ?). Not...

Visual ID of Sure Grip center section

Ah, ok so the one that Beanhead posted looks exactly like the one I saw. I just didn't know by looking at it. Now I be edjumicated !! Thanks for the lessons folks !

Visual ID of Sure Grip center section

Once again my lack of knowledge is getting put into the FBBO brain trust. With the center section removed from the housing (in my case...a 741) how can you tell if it is a Sure Grip or Open ? Pictures would be helpful. Thanks !

Blown tranny now. Honestly, what next?

Yeah, that is really the only explaination. I know that I had it fully seated before installing. I should have kept the TQ clamp on it. Live and learn....the school of hard knocks curiculum. The TQ is not the culprit, so unless the transmission is full of crap...I should be able to continue...

That must have been what happened, but it worked fine....until it didn't. My transmission guy is looking through the whole thing and will let me know if there is anything else. I'm guessing that my TQ is fine. Unless he finds a lot of shrapnel in the unit.

I am hopeful that you are correct ! I needed this expense like a hole in the head.

Here is one pic of the "pan full" of goodies. The long white piece is a metal shaving.

Blown tranny now. Honestly, what next?

Yeah, I have it all ready to come out. Don Frelier’s son is bringing me his jack and transmission cradle for it tomorrow. Only bellhousing bolts to remove. Transmission support bolts are loose and ready to pull. Everything else is removed. There might be more work involved by the debris in the pan

Blown tranny now. Honestly, what next?

I checked the gear lever while I had the pan off. No issues with that. Before jacking I had checked the gears on the ground. In park I could bounce it against the park pin. Neutral I could roll it wherever I wanted.

Blown tranny now. Honestly, what next?

I was replying to Remchargers post.... I was speaking of my particular case. My pump is not functioning, therefore the fluid level was not changing. It was the same regardless of whether it was in PRND21. I realize that the level is supposed to change....why else would it say to check the level...

Yup, Dave and I have been talking and texting for the past 2 days ! I left the debris in the pan in case he wants to frame it !

Oops, park or neutral is the correct statement. I have had the shifter cable disconnected at both ends and it operates freely. The shift lever on the transmission functions correctly. I am almost positive that something internal has failed. I put the car up on jack stands this morning...
  17. Skytrooper

Blown tranny now. Honestly, what next?

The fluid level does not change regardless of being in neutral or any other gear. It remains at the same level. So, adding another quart is not something that makes any sense, diagnostically speaking.

It comes out under pressure. The car rolls freely in neutral, in park you can feel it bump off the park pin.

Blown tranny now. Honestly, what next?

Oh boy, this is what I am facing right now. Transmission rebuilt last year has only about 25 miles on it. Drove the car into the garage last Thursday evening and Friday morning it wouldn't move in any gear. Fluid is out of the bottle clean without any residue. Cooler lines and cooler are not...
