I think the only thing that is going to give me what I really want is a set of cut outs. The ability to have the nice mellow Dynomax sound, then turn on the pain occasionally.
I just put a full TTI h-pipe system and headers on my 360 (smog motor w/edelbrock carb) and it sounds very tame. Tried the super turbos, then switched to Ultra-flows for more bark. It still sounds very mellow. The exhaust note is pleasant, and excellent under full-power acceleration but very...
I bought mine from Chicago connection as well, I wish I had some clue of how the super turbo's were going to sound before I bought. Woulda done just that and saved time and $$. Oh well, maybe someone on here will want to buy my lightly used super turbos.
The '67 TTI kit on mine was a very tight fit with the supplied 20" mufflers but they did fit. If I had to go back and do it again I would go ahead and take 1-2" off the H-pipe just to make fitment a little easier.
I am about to do the same. The super turbo dynomaxes that come with TTI systems are way too quiet for my taste, i can actually hear the engine over the exhaust note. I think you (we) should have plenty of room trimming down the H-pipe at the rear.
UPDATE! The damn bellhousing dust/inspection cover got bent a tiny bit somehow and was flapping against the flexplate. Even staring straight at it watching it happen, it still sounds exactly like a header leak. No wonder the sound seemed to be coming from everywhere.
Well, hold on to your butts. Its not a damn exhaust leak at all. Just went around with the stethescope and the sound was coming from the bellhousing. Popped of the inspection cover, something is hitting the flywheel. the noise is echoing EXACTLY like an exhaust leak in there.
I have swapped...
There is some tension on the headers from the exhaust system, not quite perfect alignment with the flanges and adapters and they don't perfectly line up until the bolts are tightened. Enough not to let the flange seal? Seems unlikely, tti headers are VERY thick tubing and the flanges are crazy...
I don't think they are the issue, but not 100% sure... i had some shitty tap jobs that were not perfectly matching the angle of the passage, and some that i put JB weld in, but no obvious indicators of a leak from there. PLUS, the remflex gasket completely covers these holes combined with the...
If i identify a spot thats leaking, is it ok to keep cranking down on the remflex gasket? Currently 20-25 ft-lbs, i got the impression that if you need more torque something is probably seriously wrong.
Not my first b-body with headers, have put them on several (cheap shitty headers i might add, headman and cheapo summit!) small blocks that sealed right up first try.
Car ran great and was whisper-quiet with stock cast iron manifolds and dual 2' compression-bend exhaust. Head surfaces are flat...
Alright, so I am finally ready to sit back and ask the experts for help.
I put some summit headers (g09040) on my '67 satellite with a smog 360, and couldn't get them to seal. Took back off 4+ times, tried percy's gaskets, fel-pro, red/black/copper rtv's, the works. Loud ***, leak, sounded like...
Who do you guys recommend I buy a TTI exhaust system from? Mancini charges $200 to ship them. At that price, I would be willing to drive a state over to pick up the system. That's insane. Summit racing ships freight for free. I'm in central KY.
Thanks,
Andrew
That’s the other tough part, are used to summit brand headers and I have no clue what they compare to. I’m going to call at Mancini racing on Monday since they are a TTI dealer and hopefully get some direction on interfacing with the tti kit.
Are use the summit brand kit in the past for my 68 b-body, It fit great but I don’t see an option for 67 or an H-pipe. Anyone know what the difference is between a 67 and 68?
Gentlemen,
I am looking for a complete 2.5 inch H-pipe header – back system for my 67 satellite with a 360. Looking around, it seems like TTI is the only company that makes what I am looking for.
Are there any other options for this type of system that I’m not aware of, preferably one that...
If you buy summit headers, do yourself a favor and spend the extra $11 on hedman 09006, 1" long header bolts. I tried to use stainless socket head cap screws and they could not handle the torque and started stripping (the heads).
Yeah i went ahead and used the supplied header gaskets, 3" collectors plugged into a dual 2" exhaust system apparently has some backpressure... go figure. Blew one out immediately.
I will give this advice though if you get summit headers, buy good gaskets and header bolts. The ones it comes with are crap. Thin fiber gaskets, and the bolts only have about 3/8" of thread engagement even with the thin gaskets. The flanges are really thick!
