I must have got it right, the motor fired up and I got about 10 min of run time at approx 2500 rpm before the smoke and fumes from the header pipes got to be too much (even with multiple fans/blowers). I'll get some more run time tomorrow.
I'm running an MSD distributor on my car, 66 coronet, early 70's 400 (408), with early 70's ign/charging setup. Running an aftermarket 4 pin ign cntr mod. To the best of my research abilities I traced out the + and - dist leads from the module, the leads from the distributor are known from MSD...
That's the direction I was leaning in, and after looking at the install instructions again, that's actually what they show as well. I'm going to leave the accel ballast between the coil and the 12v supply, and drop the ballast for the ECU. Thanks.
I believe what they say about the coil sec resistance, I hooked my DVOM up to it and it and a hard time settling on a final reading.
This diagram is what I started with. I omitted the fifth wire (on the control unit) since I'm not running an "AUX" ballast (and the instructions said that wire...
Is it possible for me to use my DVOM and check the coils resistance value and then determine the appropriate RB to intall, or is there more that needs to be added to the equation? I'm trying to upgrade the ignition in the car from a 1966 to a 1970 system. I have the correct alt, that isn't...
This is the elec diagram I'm working from. Trying to adapt it to the setup I have, toggle switch and monetary start button -vs- OE ignition switch. I don't have the volt regulator installed yet, it will be here in the next few days (AC-Delco).
From what "G" says it sounds like the accel...
So, here's what I got going on so far.
Distributor: MSD 8545
Coil: accel 140001
Ign Conrtol Mod: HiRev 7500
BR: OE style 1.3ohm
BR: accel 150001 0.8ohm
The car is is being set up for race only, not running a OEM harness, building/wiring this myself. Using a 6 circuit switch panel (with...
Wondering if someone can answer this question for me, I searched and couldn't find a previous thread that did.
I'm setting up the ignition on my car 66 coronet, using and electronic system. I have an accel super coil installed and have added the additional ballast resistor that they say must...
This has probably been asked before, and I'm not an electronic ignition guy however I must ask a question. I have a performance ignition system for my coronet that's good up to 7500 rpm. The system is designed to work with a vac-advance electronic distributor. It's not a mopar unit but the...
"I think" because it's direct current, and since DC only travels in one direction the "dirty stuff" won't contaminate the "clean side" because there are two separate paths, one for the digital stuff and one for the rest of the stuff? The electrons flow out do their work and head back home, they...
