No, I didn't. I was reluctant about using any because of the fact that it was still leaking and that I also feared contamination of the ATF. I could, I guess, drain my fresh fluid, clean out the seal area with brake clean then install a new seal with black adhesive silicone permatex. probably...
My cable operated 727 has developed a major transmission leak. Traced it to the throttle pressure (downshift) seal. Actually came out easily. The new NAPA seal installed albost too easily IMO. Just by hand while laying under the car. I did install the seal in the right direction with the smooth...
It appears that the transmission brace on the 318 is the big difference, as far as I can tell. I have contacted all of the suppliers and nobody has them available for an early B body 318 without the filter.
Back to bending and flaring, I guess.
I really appreciate the replies and advice. I am only 75 years old but still learning from those older as well as those younger than me. I believe at this point that I am not going to use the WIX in line filter, and, will just eliminate it. I changed the in pan filter with the proper 2 hole...
Here's a picture of it on jack stands while I work underneath. Every early B that I have seen and/or built over many years had rusted floors, driver's side cowl, fender dog legs, and quarters. This thing is amazingly solid. I actually believe the odometer reading of about 60K miles. The right...
Thought that I would give an update. After removing the pan, I found that there was a factory two hole filter. I put in a new one, cleaned the pan and painted the outside, New gasket and good to go. I also found a WIX 58964 in line transmission filter is very close to the same dimensions as the...
Thank y'all for the replies. Yesterday I went to a small local auto parts and bought the last eight quarts of type F fluid that they had. After considering everything, I think that my best bet is to put a stock '64 up pan on and then a '64-'65 filter. When I moved, I probably threw out some...
Definitely not ever going to be a show car. I just want to keep it as stock as possible. This thing is amazingly solid. I have done a few early B's. Every one had rust issues in the cowl, especially on the driver's side, and floor issues. The poly runs great. I put points, plugs, and wires on...
Thanks for the replies R413 is exactly right about my in line filter. As soon as I find a source for type A transmission fluid, I am going to drop the pan. If I can't find another factory in line filter, reluctantly, I'll bend up some new transmission collant lines. 50-60 years ago, when I was...
Recently purchased an original '63 Polara with a poly 318 and 727. Just starting to do some maintenance on it. The transmission filter is a "can" that is inline with the trans line, It is original I've seen them before, but now I own one. I haven't dropped the pan, therefore I hope that someone...
From what I have seen, a cheap convertor is.........a cheap convertor. My Turbo Action worked absolutely great but was expensive. I pulled it and the 727 for a 4 speed swap. Rowing gears is fun, unless you're in stop and go.
