My engine is getting up there in miles and I've been looking into an easy as possible straight up swap since this would be the first time I'd be doing this. Currently I have a 74 Charger SE that came with a 318. The previous owner swapped in a 74 LA360 from a Chrysler Imperial* hundreds of...
Hello all, there's this strange quirk that I noticed when going in reverse. It feels like the transmission or driveshaft is shuddering. Shuddering strength increases the more gas I give it while going on reverse. It's not terrible but noticeable. All forward gears are smooth as butter and engage...
I previously came across a thread that had some good pointers but I can't find it anymore. I was going to revive it with one of my n00b questions but I guess it's best to start a new thread anyways. There are plenty of resources online but I like the custom tailored to this car help I get from...
After doing some reading I'm not sure anymore if I have a blown head gasket or not.
With the crummy weather I'be been driving the car maybe once every other week. Today was a good day to take her out for a spin. It was still cold out, probably 40 degrees. I checked the oil and low and behold I...
This last weekend I was able to put the finishing touches on my 1978 A904 to 1977 A904 transmission swap on this 1974 Charger. The car feels solid and pulls good. Only problem now is that the speedometer is completely dead. Before dropping the old transmission I had a needle fluttering issue...
I'm driving some 5 hours round trip to pick up a "new" A904 from the transmission shop and to drop off my core with the royally screwed up rear servo bore and piston. I just recently found out that I had one of the more beefier A904 derivatives. A 1978 PN #4028878 with the 5 clutches up front...
Google always gets me the same 3: ebay, Jegs, and TCI. There has to be other online vendors. Any suggestions?
I just want something that's been built to stock specs or mildly upgraded and warrantied.
I just received a rebuild kit that contains all identical friction plates. According to Tom Hand's 904/727 book the rears are supposed to be thinner and of different pattern.
Do I need to send the kit back or is it fine to have all same frictions?
My rebuild is a 1974 A904...
Hi all,
I've seen quite a few torque converter recommendation threads that got some good input so I hope you guys don't mind another one for my setup. I'm in the middle of rebuilding on a budget and figured now's a good a time as any to upgrade torque converters.
Year make and model: 1974 Dodge...
I have the car on jacks almost as high as they'll go, it doesn't look like there would be enough clearance to slide the transmission & jack out the side, i'd most likely have to pull it out through the front of the car and even then I think I'll have to get some oversized 6ton jack stands just...
OK so I adjusted both kickdown bands according to specs, they were off a good bit and probably hadn't been adjusted in many years. I also got some fresh new fluids and filter. When I took the car out for a test drive the shifting was perfect, giving me a firm smooth bite from 1st to 2nd at...
I'm used to manual trans so the best way I can explain it is if you go to complete your shift from say 2nd to 3rd but instead of releasing the clutch pedal and getting a firm bite, you leave the clutch pedal in about half way and your engine just revs while getting little to no increase...
I finally got an FSM specific to my year (74) and it calls for raising the engine ~1.25-1.75" if I remember correctly. I was wondering if this can be achieved without removing the engine mounts?
I'm going to attempt to pull this pan again. Funny story, while the FSM calls for slightly raising...
Can someone please show me with a photo or an IPB what and where the "lower engine-to-transmission support struts" are? I'm looking under the car, between the engine and the transmission expecting a metal bracket holding together the engine to the transmission or something of the sort. It's...
So the obvious ones are the 2 motor mounts, I found these OEM style ones on Summit: https://www.summitracing.com/parts/ani-2250 anything else you guys recommend replacing while the engine is off its mounts? Lifting it to make way for the the oil pan on a 360 on a 74 Charger frame that just would...
I'm throwing in the towel. From what I've read on this forum and a *73* manual I tried the following:
Dropped the center linkage
Turned the engine crank with a 1.25" socket
Disconnected the nearest exhaust pipe, even though the pan hits on the K member far before the exhaust pipe when trying to...
One of the first things I noticed after purchasing and bringing the car home is that there's this opening on the front-bottom part of the transmission housing , right behind the oil pan. I can see some gears just free ballin' out in the open. I'm pretty sure it's not supposed to be that way, the...
