Reassembling a Charger R/T
About this Mopar:
71 Charger R/T, B5/B5 U-code auto. As far as R/T's go, really the only special options are N96, rimblow steering wheel and dictation machine. Fully documented with owner history (I am the 3rd owner), BS decoded by Galen Govier, fender tag and some original sales material. The engine blew and the original owner began parting the car out in the late 70's, early 80's. The second owner had a 71 Charger 500 and happened upon the Ram Charger hood at a swap meet. When he asked about the rest of the car the owner told him that the motor had blown and he was parting out the more valuable parts then scrapping the rest. The second owner went to look at the entire car and bought it. Only the engine, transmission, driveshaft, radiator and rim blow steering wheel were missing. The second owner disassembled the car and cleaned, painted and acquired all of the pieces to restore the car while storing everything in his basement (very very nice basement, mind you). When his kids got to be teenagers he decided that he did not have the time or desire to reassemble the car, bought a Viper and advertised the car for sale.
I bought the car as a roller with engine and transmission included. The second owner acquired the parts to swap the car to a floor shift with console rather than the original buckets/buddy seat. He also deleted the vinyl top fasteners. 100% original rust free sheet metal that is glorious. It does need to be completely re-assembled. The blue is just a protective single stage coat over epoxy primer, it will need paint after assembly.

New hardware for the front and rear valances. Still debating on using the new reproduction parking light lenses. Everything is original and pretty nice, but the reproductions are so clear. Headlight buckets need painted and bolts touched up.

The engine is almost ready to put on the K-Frame. 440 with a 6 pack and Edelbrock heads. The internals have been warmed up as well as having the carbs gone through. It still needs some cleaning and debating whether to paint the heads and intake orange.

Assembled the front brakes to move it out of the shed to pour concrete. Not proud that it hasn’t progressed. Wilwood 12.19” front rotors on stock drum brake spindles that I had to swap in.
