The last one in comercial service was used to fly people from port Clinton to put-in-bay. I never rode in it but my father used to tell me story's about it. He used to say you could watch the rivets in the sides spin as you were flying.
Thanks for starting the thread. The last time we were at the "Fantasy of Flight" museum, Kermit Weeks pulled his Tri- Motor out and put on a little show. It was a sight to see. The sound of 3 engines at once was very cool.

Hey Budnicks,
They used the corrugated metal since it was a lot stronger than flat sheet aluminum. It did cause a lot of drag though.
The Germans used the same type of metal covering on their 3 engine transport called the Junkers, Ju-52

I'm pretty sure that Kermit Week's plane was used in the filming of an "Indiana Jones" movie.
