Hi All,

Looking to buy a pair of S/S or HD springs from the rear of my 65 coronet. I Understand this was a changeover year, the springs having a 21" front and 35" rear section.

Most sites arent very helpful as they suggest using 66+ springs and new front hangers (moving the front eye mount 1" and enabling use of 22" front section springs). The issue is this adds a huge amount to the cost and i'd rather keep the springs true to year.

Many of the sites only list one side (Driver/Passenger)- are the springs the same both sides?

Also looking at potentially running polybushes, but many come with the front bush (Rubber) installed. Does this work ok (poly rear, rubber front) or is it worth pushed them out and fitting poly too?

Cheers for your help guys.

Regards

Steve

I personally am OK with bushing mix. Being the front bushing does most of the locating requirements, something a poly does well, the rear much less so and the rubber in the rear is helpful in reducing NVH issues so the opposite of your mentioned solution.
Without knowing your goals, hard to suggest.
Asymmetrical leafs are biased for maximizing straight-line acceleration, not handling nor ride.

Yes... unless you are drag racing both leaves should be the same.

I will order the springs for my '65 Coronet from Dodge Coronet Leaf Springs

These folks got me out of a jam years ago when I broke a spring on my Peterbilt while hauling a load of hurricane supplies to Florida... they made a front spring for me while I waited! I was fixed in two hours. I try to help those who helped me.

Not sure about overseas shipping but I would have to believe there are good spring shops in the UK.

Thanks - So does this mean i can simply order two of those listed?
I don't see why not.
However I have yet to read why the upgrade of the leafs in the first place.
IMO usually more bang for buck handling wise is found by first starting in the front, usually starting with a significant TB upsize.
You can also upgrade the front leaf bushings to poly and see how that works out at minor cost. Measure first because sizes do vary.
With softer leaf's their NVH is obviously less and more tolerable, but you gain some control and anti-roll.

You can use the Mopar S/S springs by using the M.P. Plymouth front hanger, which moves the front eye bolt hole 1" rearward. This makes up for the 1" difference in front spring segment length ( 21" stock spring versus 20" S/S spring). Based on my experiences, I would use a pair of P3690455 springs. These are 3800 lb., left side springs. This spring has the longest 2nd leaf, supporting the main leaf, to reduce sag. By using two of the same spring, your car will sit level. I have this setup in both my B-bodies. The staggered, bias spring sets were never designed for normal street use. They were engineered this way to help a dedicated race car launch a certain way.

ESPO have said theyre closing down....

Did you get a timeline?

I have springs on the back burner for both my upcoming projects.

Better move them up.

I have been using FG composite leaf's on all my cars and am very happy with them.
My first supplier would build to any needed arch, rate and/or leaf segment needed. Not sure they are still business
Currently Hyperco only offers different rates I believe for Chrysler leaf's.
It seems many are wary of them, ignoring the fact they have been on Vettes for decades and are used on Class 8 Semi Tractors.
I like losing, 45lbs?

You can use the 66- springs provided you get different front spring hangers. AR Engineering makes the required hangers. You can get them through Mancini and some other outlets. On springs, I bought a pair of units for my 67 wagon. They are the XHD versions with an additional 2.5" added to the arch. I sourced my through generalspringkc.com. They have several choices for 66- units which makes getting them easier. They do show one unit for -65, but it covers both Dodge and Plymouth, but you would need to check on those as I believe they were different between those two on their front and rear segments being different lengths.
For my 65, I bought a pair of XHD units from Firm Feel and they came with the AR front hangers. Didn't use them, the hangers, as I relocated the springs into the rails with the USCT package.
