I'm a bit confused on what wiper motor I need. According to the original parts book my 1968 RR uses #3004114. The existing motor is #2889982. Both numbers come up as 1968 3-speed. In some lists it says they are both "late production" on another list the #2889982 indicates "mid production". Pictures of both look the same except the #3004114 has an extra 2-wire plug coming from the main harness plug.

I am converting from AT to 4-speed and heard the reverse switch from the transmission is supposed to plug through the wiper harness. The parts book does not have separate numbers for AT and 4-speed.

I plan on getting a restored unit but wondering if I should change to the #3004114. Anyone with some knowledge on this?

Some 68's, presumably early models, had the older wiper motors as found on a 66 Charger for example. My 68 RR uses the late style with cad plated motor. My 66 Belvedere has that early motor but it's variable speed so the switch does not have distinct detent positions. If you have a three position rocker switch then you likely have the late style "flat" motor. Not sure about running the reverse lights through the wiper motor harness.

2889982 is an early to mid 68 wiper motor and the pigtail you're speaking of for reverse backup/neutral safety switch is normally in two of the remaining 4 openings in the bulkhead connector. I'll try to find a photo for you, usually in a 68-69 it's a black wire and black with white tracer and the black matches with the brown and the black with white tracer matches with the red wire in the harness on the row with all the harness wires, brown, red, green and blue. Then there's a female two prong connector on that pigtail. Some had a LONG wire that looks like a lampcord for lack of a better description and looks like the plug you plug into a wall to power the lamp. What can I say, I'm a girl LOL
