1968 charger glove box pops open

Help! My glove box lid keeps popping open when driving...very annoying...all parts seem to be in good condition. Is there a hack to fix this??

you should be able to adjust the lock catch

Hi, is the bottom catch a piece of stamped wire or is it a catch like davek posted? Check spring tension if its the catch. Also davek is correct, you can adjust it or shim if necessary.

Looks just like the picture... interestingly, when at a stand still, you can't grab the lid and get it to pop open...only driving does it do it... spring seems to work fine

Just needs shimming. My old Road Runner with a stick and traction bars would pop it open on launch. Fixed it with shimming and adjustments.

Sorry to resurrect an old thread but I'm having the same issue. I can bang on the glovebox and it will not open but if I hit a certain bump and it vibrates a certain way it will open. I tried to shim the latch with tiny washers to raise the latch up and its still doing it. Any recommendations? Should I try to move the latch towards the front of the car or the rear of the car up/down????

The only thing I can think of is that it is getting a vibration on that spring latch causing it to open. I'm going to try and lubricate with a thick grease to try and eliminate some of that vibration that can cause the spring to open or vibrate loose.

I PUT ONE MORE SHIM(WASHER) FOR A TOTAL OF 3 UNDER THE STRIKER AND SO FAR SO GOOD

Could turn the timing down or last resort, put a chev engine in it ( although fairly drastic).

Wish it opened top down like my old Chevy did instead of bottom up. Top down open also allows use as a cup rest while doing a pit stop.
Don't some years of the Charger have a top down glove box door opening?

How well does door line up with adjacent upper pad? Reason I ask..... you can possibly tweak the main hinge a bit. This may be just enough to get you out of this issue. With the door open you can pull either corner
of the door giving it a bit of a twist toward center of door. Do one side and then the other. This may help. I have used this trick to fix a couple in the past.
