A lifelong friend passed away recently, and I am attempting to help his widow sell his collection of Mopar cars, trucks and parts. He bought a 68 Hemi GTX in 1977 at the age of 17, and drove it in the summertime until about 1983. It was then garaged, and restoration began at a snails pace while he drove and collected other Mopar muscle cars and parts. The car had all rust issues resolved and was painted a blasphemous non-Mopar shade of silver in about 1990. Trim parts that were removed b4 the paint job need to be reinstalled. It has been garaged and never driven since even before the paint job, but would definitely benefit from a good buffing or light sanding, and there willl probably be some surface rust issues to deal with. To the best of my knowledge, this car was never caged or tubbed. This an automatic car w/ 8 3/4" rear end. Car has the correct vin #s on the dash, core support, and qp. We never found a build sheet, but the fender tag is intact. It will be sold with a rebuilt but never driven 1970 hemi engine. Seats were recovered with correct legendary or year1 material at some point along the way. This car is way too far along to call it a project, but will undoubtedly need a few weekends worth of labor to get it roadworthy again. I am in Chicagoland and the car is garaged in the U.P. area of Michigan. We are in the process of getting this car appraised, but anyone who knows what something like this will sell for is free to add their thoughts. I am in the process of obtaining pix, but the people who live near the storage site of this car are not very adept at using computers.

It will be hard to give a est of value with no picture's and the little info given. Do you know anything about the appraiser? Is this someone who is a Mopar specialist, or someone who will just see a J code GTX and give a outlandish dollar figure? I understand it's not # matching engine but are all other parts correct 68 ( carbs, air cleaner, manifolds, ECT...)? Right now I'd say figures somewhere between 25K-40K

yup

Didn't all 68-70 B-Body Hemi cars come with Dana 60's instead of the 8-3/4" rear axle even with an automatic?

Thanks for your thoughts. I should have said we are in the process of seeking an appraisal, but do not know much about contacting appraisers, fees involved, etc... We are also considering hauling the car to the Nationals in August and seeing what interest it may generate there. Another friend knows this car better than me and has worked on her at various times over the past 25 years. He will know more about what is year correct and what is not, but he is currently in a vicious cycle of working 85 hour weeks, adding a 2 hour commute to his workdays, and online certification testing, so he has very little down time to devote to the sale of the car and parts right now. His work load will dwindle in November- just as everyone is putting their fair weather toys away for the winter. I had a feeling the car might change hands in the 35 to 40 K range, so I don't think our hopes are terribly overoptimistic. Thanks again.

Pix of the 68 GTX

Here are a couple pix of the car. They are probably several years old, but it is all I can get for now.

My condolences on the loss of your good friend. :-(
It shows a good mans' heart for you to help his widow out like this.
Well done, sir.
We should all be lucky enough to be blessed with such friends.

i bought a new 68 rr in 68 and it had off set carbs, not inline.

Not from the factory it didn't. The only off set carbs from the factory were on the race Hemis and in 1968 the only cars with a race Hemi were the Darts and Cudas. You car may have been modified by the dealer before you got it..

The above pictured car has aftermarket air cleaners on it.
