Hey all, just got myself my first hemi. Its a numbers matching, 4 speed, 3.54 Dana, 1969 Coronet RT. Love it! Have a few questions though...
The driveshaft has an inertia ring on it but it is at the rear end not the transmission. Is it in backwards?
Pulled a couple spark plugs to have a look and they looked good but the threads were wet with oil. Is that due to the way the plugs are recessed into the valve covers? Is it normal when pulling out the plugs?
It runs great, no oil burn, but runs very rich. Is this an indication of needing a carb rebuild or...?
How difficult is it to install a hydraulic cam in place of the solid lifter cam that it has now?
Thanks!

Congrats on your new ride and good luck.

Congrats! Yes, drive shaft is installed backwards, must have been reversed at some point. oil will leak into the chamber when plugs are pulled. they make tube seals to help prevent this. made by Milodon, at least that is who I bought them from. AHH many years ago! LOL!! the cam change is fairly time consuming for a novice, but if you read up on it. it can be done in a long week end. ask a friend with experience to help if you can. I am a big fan of solid lifter cams. I may be in the minority, but they sound authentic! and rollers. my Hemi has a solid roller. love the mechanical sound. and would like to see pics when you get some. was it from Newfundland? Blue?

Stay with the solid cam. Running rich is a normal issue with carter carbs, they are famous for never ever running right. I have a few sets i keep around to remind me of the head ache days. if you decide you lve the car and keep it then put up with crummy carbs or replace with single 950 Holley or better yet Quick Fuel 850. otherweise living with carters is what your going to have.

Congrats, but ....., :worthless_thread:

Hmm,
Sounds like you have too many issues/problems already!

A "CAM" swap is "stressful", "time consuming" and very very costly. Could take months....

On another note...I'd be willing to purchase your recently accqiuired Hemi Coronet from you to save you from the pain and stress.

Yes, driveshaft is in backwards.
The oil on the plugs most likely came form when the plugs were removed. If the threads are oily then I'd say it's residual oil from when the plug tubes were removed.
Keep the solids.

Oh yeah, nice car by the way!
