Hello all,

I am very curious to see if a 15x8" wheel with 4.5" back space and 245/60R15 will fit on the front of a stock 69 RR without rubbing.
I don't want to go to 7" if I don't have to, so I would greatly appreciate the input!

Post info and pics if possible please!!

That’s exactly what I’m running in my 69’ Super Bee. Only issue I had were the wheel weights (hammered on) contacted the upper control arm. Stick on weights solved that.

Here’s my build… (Post #4)

Maybe a 4 inch BS would fit without the weights rubbing? Just spit balling here. Going for a NASCAR road race look I take it?

Haha I guess so. I always loved the look of wider tires in the front and I do not like skinny tires.

Thanks for the reply!
I am hoping the coronet and rr are very similar in the front end. I think im going to go ahead with 15x8 + 4.5" backspace in the front with 245/60R15 and 15x10 + 5.5" backspace in the rear with 275/60R15. They will be stick on weights for sure, and if i have to get a 1/4" spacer in the front!

I run 255s on 8" Ramcharger steel rims on my Charger. I realize there is a bit more room in the Charger fender well, but one thing I did have to add were the bump stop spacers from an A12 car. They keep the suspension from bottoming out fully. The spacers are available from a few suppliers, or you can make your own from 1/4" plate.

I have 245/60R15 tires on 15x8 wheels with a 4.5" backspace - exactly what you are asking about. (I run 275/60 on the back.)
No rubs, no issues whatsoever. I have a 70 Road Runner, but I am not aware of any differences in the wheel well area between 68-70.

Awesome!
This is great, thank you.
Beautiful car.
Our two cars would be a good combo rollin around together!

I've run as much as a 265/50R15 on 15x8 Ramcharger wheels (4.5 BS) on a '68 RR, no problems at stock height or lowered slightly. 265 is a bit wide for 8" though.
My '69 RR runs 15x8s (4.5 BS) with 245/60s in front, no rubbing or interference.
Clip-on weights can be an interference issue at the upper arm/ball-joint even with 14x7s; easy enough to check before mounting tires.

Hawkrod, do you (or did you) have factory drum or disk front brakes on your ‘70 Roadrunner? I have a ‘70’Satellite with factory front drum brakes and I’d like to install 15”x8” wheels with 4.5” of backspace and 245/60-15 tires. But before I pull the trigger on wheels, I’m concerned that the track width of my factory drum brakes may be a different than the track width of a factory front disc ‘70 Roadrunner. How close to your upper control arm / ball joint are your front 15”x8” wheels? Thanks for your time.

My 70 was built with factory manual drum brakes on all corners. When I restored the car, I bought a front disk brake kit from Right Stuff, and that kit replaced the spindles with a 73/74 style brake setup.

So bottom line is I can't answer your question. I never had the 245/60 tires on the 15x8 rims until the disk brakes were on. I really don't know if there is any difference in track width for drum vs. disk brakes. I wouldn't think so, but that honestly is just a guess on my part.

Understood. Thanks for your response. BTW, your car looks great.

Some aftermarket disc brake kits do widen the track by a bit, like 3/8" - 3/4" depending on the kit.
Worth asking the manufacturer/seller if room is tight. May not be a problem on a '68-'70 B-body.

Agree. The 68-70 B bodies have a good amount of room for some meaty tires up front.

I have my old 15x8 Keystone Klassics with 3.5” of backspacing with 245/60-15 Radial T/A tires mounted for mock-up. The tire BARELY clears the front fender lip on turning the steering wheel. Additionally, the inside wheel bead BARELY clears the UCA. So I don’t think I could go to a 255/60-15 tire on a 15x8 wheel with 4.5” of backspacing. I think a 4.5” backspaced 15x8 would never fit on my car with the stock brake drums. But, it seems like everyone sells 15x8, 3.5” BS wheel for our Mopars. Unless, they are meant for disc brake converted cars with a slight wider track width.

Idk if you already have the 8" rims? I have never run 8" on the front, but have used 15x7 with 4.25" backspace and 245/60's with no clearance issues.

My rims on my 70 are 15x8 with 4.5" of backspacing, but I only have 245/60R15 on them. But, never any fitment or rubbing issues whatsoever with that combo.
