1970-71 hemi/six pack pan capacity

Yeah, I know.. I just don't see wasting another qt. of oil, under normal use, the pickup will never get dry... ( you wouldn't believe how many people drive with dry dipsticks, they used to check it during a fuel fill at the gas station, but afterwards many people never check theirs )

Yep, if you don't need the extra oil, it is a waste. I am not a believer in more is better. But determining what is enough is the question, and the risk/consequences of underestimating are kinda big.

And to your point on what's enough. I run a hemi pan on my 500 inch wedge, I dont over fill it, use 5-20 synthetic oil, full time unrestricted oiling to the rockers through the grooved #4 cam journal and the motor has been 6,800 rpm. The bearings looked perfect on teardown.

I just wouldnt recommend to someone that wants to run extra oil to not do so if I don't think there is a real consequence on the "extra oil" side of the equation.

What to find leaking welds put gas it the pan. Stoddard solvet works if you have access. Call a dry cleaner they can tell you where to get some.
Cover the welds with coat of JB Weld clear epoxy.
