I am putting a fresh1971 torqueflite 727 into my 65 Coronet and it requires a different rear mount setup. My rear mount cross-member piece also retains the parking brake cable assy. One, does anyone know how to remove that cable assy without damaging it? two. is there any bolt in replacement to adapt the 71 transmission to the 65 body?..The studs coming down from the transmission are about 1" closer together than the mounting holes used by the 904 I removed. They are also about 1 1/2 to 2 inches to the rear of where the 904's were. I am thinking I am up against a cutting and welding kind of problem but I f I could get answers to questions one and two above, it could really help.

I had a similar problem on my 65 Coronet with 69 727...bought a bracket and a mount on E bay.
Here's a couple pics if it will help:

Thanks very much for this, can you tell me any part numbers or specific descriptions that will help me get to this part, it looks perfect. What did you do about extracting the emergency brake cable from the old cross member part? Again, thank you very much.

The emergency cable system could be converted to the 66 and later system. You need later cable from rear axle. You should have the two hole bracket on driver's side rear frame rail. You mount another bracket on trans cross member. I used a threaded rod and a connecting to connect front cable to back. Supported rod with plastic tube and a fuel line clamp. Didn't put a nut on where cables meet, it turned horizontal , lock nut on both sides fixed it. Third picture is front cable mounted to front cross member. Doubled pic's oops.

What engine is in the '65? Aren't there differences in the crank pilot and convertor hub sizes to '65, and '66 and later?
