My parents purchased a Bahama Yellow 1971 Road Runner with the black strobe stripes. In 1972 they changed 'em. I can't explain why, but I always cringe at the '72 change and prefer the '71. And it bugs me somewhat because they are so similar. Anyone else share or does not share my preference?

You're missing another 72 variety!

I definitely like the 71 style over the 72. 72 just looks like a half-assed homemade copy of the 71. I am doing a 72 clone but with the 71 stripes.

Your two example pictures are placed horribly!!!! I have a bigger problem with cars that have the wrong year stripes over the difference between the two years!

Don't like either of 'em, period. But the 71s look better than the 72s.

Isn't the only difference that the 72 doesn't have the bird?

I have always thought placing the bird emblem down low of the quarter/rocker was extremely odd.

...but that's part of the endearing Mopar idiosyncrasies that we all love, right?

(Like a Pentastar on only one of the front fenders.)

More to it than just the bird.

The number of strobe stripe segments are more on the 72 stripe.
I think its 10 or 11 segments on the 72 stripe vs 6 on the 71.
The roof portion of the stripe on a 72 is solid where on a 71 the strobe segments continue from one side to the other.

The bird placement in the 2 photos is correct for each year.

On the OP pics: Top pic stripe is too far to the rear.

Correct YY1.
The bottom of the stripe is to be located in the middle of the wheel opening.
On the OP photo, that stripe is too far to the right & you can see the bottom of the stripe is nowhere near the middle of the wheel opening.

I much prefer the '71 strobe over the '72 strobe; and I don't like the strobe in combination with a partial vinyl top whatsoever.

I don't like any type of vinyl top on a car. Matter of fact I almost didn't buy my '70 Charger because it has a vinyl top.
