1973 400 hp ??

My buddy Rick has a 73 SE Charger w/ 400 B V8. He tells me that it has spots for 3 data plates on the inner fender. He says one of them has HP SS 2 on it and the last one is missing. For some reason he's convinced that it is a factory experimental Nascar motor. Any ideas?

In 73, if it was raced, I'm pretty sure it would be a body in white with no vin, and would have run a destroked Hemi. The 400 never had any real promise or development for larger circle track. Not as far as I know anyway. It's wishfull thinking.
