1974 LCA Stiffening plates

Looking for opinions if it is worth welding a stiffening plate to a 1974 lower control arm. I would on a 71-72 since they are basically two steel plates riveted together with a small plate welded on top. The 73-74's are one piece that is U shaped, so I'm not sure a stiffening plate would add much strength. Also, would a 1974 lca also be dipped in cosmoline or did they stop doing that? Thanks!
 
With shipping they would be $100 Canadian, so if they don't help it does hurt a bit. LOL I've attached photos.
