As i have mentioned before my work is moving to Seattle and i am not going to be driving the Coronet to work, but buying a Park and Ride car.

A guy has a 95 Jeep Wrangler, says its in really good shape, with 190,000 miles on it, Yikes. But its $400.

So its like what the heck, 4x4 for the bad weather and a cheap back and forth car.

I have never driven one, never checked them out, what are the things i should look for, anyone know about these?

For $400 it really doesn't matter. If the motor falls out tomorrow and you fix it it's still a cheap ride

Those jeeps are pretty bullet proof. Is it the straight six or four cyl? The straight six is a motor that can go well over 200k, they are like a rock. The 4cyl not so much. Likewise if it's a manual trans that's the preference, the auto trannys of that era are troublesome.

For street use i'd just check the brakes, running condition, anything leaking, massive rust holes, etc. Check the power steering system for big leaks and a burned up smell. Those older jeeps will go through those once and a while.

Keep in mind the transfer case. While you won't use it in 4wd all the time, power still goes through it in 2wd mode... so make sure it works and shifts as it should.

When you drive it you'll prob be surprised at how squirrely it handles. It's normal and due to the leaf spring suspension front and rear... but you'll get used to it.

but yeah for $400, it's hard to expect all that stuff to check out completely. Good luck!

Thanks for the info, my wife has been setting this up. Its actually a Cherokee. I have heard these things run forever, and yeah, i agree, for $400, who cares. Its good transportation in the snow and a good parking lot car.
