anyone know anything about these cars? My charger daytona breaks out in a fit and acts / sounds as if it has a flat tire in the rear. starts to shake and "thump" like a flat tire then all of a sudden it will stop.

Not sure where to start, but thinking it may be a rear CV axle, rear wheel bearing, or maybe a bearing in the center section/differential carrier.

Any thoughts? thanks

Well, unless it's an all-wheel-drive Chrysler 300, you shouldn't have a "CV joint" in the back. A wheel bearing (or axle bearing) problem in a rear wheel drive car would cause the problem you describe. You could also have something coming apart in the differential itself too.

To diagnose the wheel bearing, jack the car up in the air in the back, grab ahold of the tire/wheel where you think the problem is coming from & shake the hell out of it trying to feel for something loose....up, down, left, right. You could also put a long fence pole or something under that tire & lift up using a "type #2 lever"..... the tire is the fulcrum.... like you'd check a front lower ball joint.... and have somebody else under the car looking for loose suspension components too. For the differential, just take the cover off & look for broken parts inside.

OK, the issue has been resolved. Turns out the friction material comes unglued from the parking brake shoes. Set of rotors/drums and some new shoes and it is good to go again.
