318 Oil Pan gasket

I'm preparing to change the oil pan gasket on my 1969 Satellite with a 318 and a 904. Will I need to drop the transmission? Is there any tricks or tips as this is the first time I've done one on a 318. Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

Don't need to remove the trans but you might have to jack the engine up to fully remove the pan because you still have to give the pan enough room to clear the pickup tube.....

Taking out the steering link will make it a more enjoyable experience. Great time to weld in some acceleration and deceleration baffles.
