383 STOCK B body vs 5.7 Challenger

I have only had 1 motor on a dyno, Track numbers are what matter. Mine have spoken for them self.

In an unscientific flag drop drag race, this A Body took a Hellcat at Willow Springs last year. Cat is a 6 speed manual, and the former /6 Barracuda has a modern and warmed up 5.9 Magnum FI Motor. Lighter. Ragtop driver says at the very end he could hear the muuuuuwaaaa of the Hellcat and he would have lost in another 10 feet. The Hellcat was just about to run him down.

That's exactly the area where my fast and stock muscle-cars ran, back in the day. My Caravan puts a hurtin' on lots of stuff. It's too funny.
My 14 Cadillac XTS (6 cyl twin turbo) runs a mid 13 sec. At 410 horse. Takes my GTX well into 4th gear to catch and over take. The GTX is about 1000 lbs lighter. And a little more horsepower. But geared too high to hang in first 1000 ft. I think if given lets say a Passon 5 speed and 4:10 rear drag pack? Caddie would stand no chance at any speed.

4,500 lb Cadillac with driver and fuel, takes a lot of power to move something with that much mass! Back when I owned a C5 Z06, they were low-12 second cars with only 405 HP. 11.90s on drag radials with a 6-speed manual. They weighed 3,080 lbs from the factory. So it's all relative, modern cars are just h-e-a-v-y. My 2015 Power Wagon weighs 7,200 lbs. Compared that to my 77' M880 (W200 Power Wagon) that weighs 4,600 lbs. Takes a lot more power to push the modern version.

I own both old school and a newer 5.7L Challenger R/T. While the Challenger seems to be about a 13.4-13.6 car by the butt dyno. My older cars may be faster/quicker but the Newer Challenger seems so effortless since it is so nice and quiet and crusing with air on. The older cars are louder so it makes it more exilerating with noise, tires squeeling, chirping the gears and getting sideways. Where the newer Challenger just goes. Traction control does its job. Technology has come a long way.

Just wondering how bad my STOCK 383 Bee i bought new with 3.23 gears would get beat by my 5.7 Hemi 3.06 gears 12 Challenger? Both totally stock !!! Thanks

My 5.7 6 speed 3.92 vs my stockish 383 Road Runner.

Now, compare the 485 HP 6.4/392 to the 1972 440 6-pack NET figures at 330 HP.
290 RWHP would be a similar drivetrain loss figure, and that is fairly accurate.

Hi,new here and dont want to get off on the wrong foot(I am friendly) but the 1972 engines were different than the 71 and older...72 440 6bbl was low compression and different heads, cam a much weaker engine than the 69-71 440 6bbl cars...

I had a 16 year old pristine 1 female owner 1973(same year as me lol) Plymouth Satellite with the P code high performance 400 4barrel,727,3.23 gears..
I tuned it up and it was a tire burner(was when I bought it) it was a powerful car(surprising because people said they were slow lol)..

Being all original never a part true 89,000 miles and it looked and drove new(every receipt since new no head no cam job just regular maint).

It ran 13.99 the 1st time out (okay after burning the the tires after many slower times 16.6 then 15 flat then a few solid high 14's..

So once I got the handle how to launch the car I ran a 13.99 bone stock 400 4bbl ! It was slower than my buddies stock 69 Charger RT that wasnt never a part either ,he did add headers and holley 750 and ran 12.80's with 3.23 gear..

I owned a 68 Fury 2 door with a 383 2barrel and that even ran 15 flat and 1 14.93,100% stock..I was lucky enough to buy cars that were original and running perfect..
We are at sea level and drag racers from Nevada,Idaho,Oregon,California even Washington State say this track is the fastest track around !

I raced my then 1 year old 2010 Challenger RT 5.7 hemi with my 68 Chrysler 300 2 door with the non high performance 440 4bbl factory holley carb (it isnt the magnum version)

The Challenger and 300 were side by side ! My Dad drove the 68 and the engine was never rebuilt..The 68 even burns rubber from a 15 mph roll ,its original and never touched..I own a 68 300 with a 440 TNT and the other 68 is slower..Never raced with the R/T..I also owned 6.1 Hemi and now a 392 Hemi Challenger..

I also owned a 69 Newport with the 383 Magnum (dont know what Chrysler cars called it) it felt as strong if not stronger than the 68 non high performance 440..Yes,the 383 4bbl high flow exhaust, duel snorkle, duel exhaust vs my other 69 Newport that had 383 4bbl,no high flows,no snorkle and single exhaust..I have a thing of when I get 1 car I fall in love with them and search for another lol..
To me the 3.6 feels like a 383 2 barrel in any Mopar..yes,my wife has a 2017 300 awd with the 3.6 V-6...Quick car !

My 68 Charger RT 440 isnt stock, bought it in pieces,I am now working on a 69 Charger non R/T but is now..1975 440 now 505 c.i and will run low 11's..My 68 can do high 11's,low 12's in street trim(no drag radials) both auto's and 3.23's...15 inch magnum 500's.

Remember old recorded times from magazines were tested different than today..either start in 2nd or floor it and spin...There even is a to this day printed on sites etc road test of one tested in the rain when wet with 0 traction..and the times stand on all the 0-60 internet sites..I found the article and gasped as he said it was raining and no traction, yet they posted the performance times,unreal..
This is my experience with hundreds of Mopars over the years..I bought/sold them for decades.Dad even owns his Cuda he bought new..
