400-230 block main web strength

FROM what I understand, " more importantly'' it runs all the way yo the cam bearing boss, that`s supposedly where they break.
Nice! I don't think I'll be making that much power. LOL Just happened across this one on C List, and eventually bought it. Didn't even know it needed a casting date before 10-10-71, to have the larger web supoprts, but I lucked out there. This motor was at a cabin in the Colorado Rockies west of Fort Collins! There are still a few out there.

I got my first 400 from a '72 Fury I police cruiser, TQ intake with no EGR! Didn't know it was thick web until 20yrs later!! I got another one from my friend's old '65 Fury III that we (without knowing about the webs) transplanted for the original Poly 318. It came from a '72 Charger (HP block-lol) Rallye. I have at least 3 and maybe 4 of the best castings (besides the "cold weather" block, which I have never personally seen, with the extra external casting ribs) and several of the second-to-best web configuration blocks. Even the last 77-78 400s are nice and hold up well for almost any street build.

Ok, here is a pic of the early 70s Chrysler Blue. Post 41 shows a block painted Turquoise. Late 60s color.

There are later 230 blocks that have the BOLD numbers but with the smaller main web. I had one which was late October

I have been fortunate in finding them (thick web, bold numbers) including one that we put in a friend's 65 Fury because we couldn't readily find a 440 in his budget. He unfortunately died in a freak accident and his parents sold the car. The guy who bought it got in a tight for cash and had a 440 to install in the Fury so he cut me a deal on the 400. 72 Charger Rallye hp block, mid 71 casting date. Even had chrome factory valve covers with the old "Stage lV" stickers on them, but 346 heads.

I have a cross-bolted early 230 block in my Coronet.

Hi Andy, Which brand main caps do you use/recommend?, I'm planning a 512 build and this looks very good. Is doing the caps enough or do I need to add girdle as well for a 700HP street build

year and a half old thread. recommend starting a new thread.
