426 Hemi Valve Covers

I think there was a race series head for the 426 hemi that used a different valve cover shape. The ends were straight, didnt have the standard "kink" in the ends. I wanna say-D6, race head (maybe dual plug)?I have it referenced somewhere, in an old mopar magazine, but i dont have one chance in a thousand of finding it.

I might be wrong but I believe that all of the valve covers interchange.

The car very well could have had a cross ram but that doesn't mean it was built that way, 1965 was a long time ago and back then guys did whatever they thought would make them faster. Additionally those parts could be purchased over the counter from your local dealer, it was very common for guys to retrofit their cars with whatever they liked back then just as it is today.

64-65 heads use a different valve cover than 66-71. The 64-65 are referred to as K heads. 64 were iron and 65 aluminum but same configuration. The 68 race hemis used the iron street hemi head with alot of compression and a crossram. 1965 was the ONLY year Chrysler would ever have an aluminum head available from the factory.

In 1966 Chrysler DID offer a race package similar to the 67 Super Stock package. It was not coded as such though. It included a hood scoop, heater/radio/carpet delete and optional battery in the trunk. I know I'm going to get grief on this...Jack McCormick and several others recieved them new. McCormick is still racing it today in Stock eleminator.
