Valve cover gaskets

What’s the best valve cover gasket for a 68 383 using the chrome MP valve covers? I bought Mr. Gasket Ultra Seals from Mancini but the fit is not good and they have no alignment tabs. Thanks!

I use grease on both sides of a plain cork gasket. Then they can be re sealed several times without tearing. Careful not to over tighten though as they will split.

Another vote for cork gaskets. I use 3M Weatherstrip Adhesive to glue the gasket to the valve cover and lightly grease to head side of the gasket for easy removal.

I tried the black gaskets (supposedly able to mold to different surfaces) at the recommendation of a parts store employee. Big fail for me. Leaked like a sieve.

I am going to try the basic cork gaskets. I currently have the black ones with Form a Gasket, and they still slobber. Nice winter project. Thanks to the guys that say they work fine.

I haven't done anything yet. Car is in winter hibernation now. I will put cork gaskets in before spring wake-up. Happy New Year.

Thanks Dave. I’m doing the off season refresh as it’s hibernation time here in NY as well:

Winter off season project engine compartment “clean up” and engine repaint.

Guess I’ll go cork as I’d like to be ready to roll out come the spring.

nothing better, make sure covers aren't bent(edges) light snug over several runups

That’s what I use and you can just order from Amazon too. I use Permatex aviation sealant on the valve cover side.
